Some of the mud runs (technically "obstacle course races") are designed around solo performance - Warrior Dash is. In the Warrior Dash, there aren't any obstacles I can't complete solo, and I'm not any kind of elite athlete. In Tough Mudder, there are many obstacles that are designed to require help. Some can be overcome by those with really good vertical leaps (though if they miss by a bit, someone up top like me will catch their arm and get them to the handhold they missed). Some I'm not sure can be overcome by any kind of athletic prowess. Some can be easily overcome by good athleticism, but are made easier by someone up top being there if you slip. And there are some (only in the Full Mudder) that are entirely solo ventures. With Tough Mudder, they've designed the course around the idea of teamwork. Most people help someone up before they start up, then help someone from the top before they climb down the other side. There's a real sense of community to it.
I'd like to add - most courses are designed for people of normal height. Someone as vertically challenged as I am usually needs a bit of a boost, unless supremely wiry and athletic.

I think I found the perfect hoodie for you @Xue Sheng
A thing of beauty...

@gpseymour and I decided to keep doing the Warrior Dash in April (that is going to feel SO easy now), and then frame out our year with the half Tough Mudder in October (I don't want to switch to Tough Mudder 5k - that's what Warrior Dash is for). He can do a full Tough Mudder in the middle if he wants to. Seriously, @Xue Sheng 's mud allergies aside, does anyone want to form a team with us for either of these? They are both in Georgia - in Atlanta area, and we are in Western North Carolina. Since I can't life for the life of me, both will be fairly leisurely for people who walk and run regularly.

Thank You, but no. Enough joint issues at the moment I am trying to get through and it is absolutely not possible for me to get to Georgia at this time.

Also, all kidding aside, the muddy swamp issues left me with not seeing mud fun in any way shape or form. Although back in elementary school I did have to spend an entire day covered in mud because, while waiting to be let into school one morning a bunch of us found this very long, very steep, and muddy hill that you could slide down in the a rather large mud puddle.....what can I say....9 year old logic won the day that day

You know... that was actually one of the obstacles. It was called Kill A Gorilla. It was exactly like what you described - a very long, step, muddy hill you had to slide down. :)

Oh...and I expect everyone to observe a moment of silence today at 3:00pm in honor of my Samsung model SCH-U640 flip phone, that after 10 years together, died yesterday at 3:00PM....

Now I have to get a ding dang smart phone...BAH!!! I HATE being forced into the modern era...

Yeah, you'd need about 14 inches more vertical leap than me to get to many things.

It seems I still own that 9-year-old logic, Xue.
