Why do so many Westerners have a "Paris Syndrome" to style's origin country (often laser focused)?

Regardless, no other country calls itself "America."

There's plenty of:
- The Republic of .....
- The Kingdom of.....

Here, it's "The United States of..."

And, by the way... Mexico is also a "The United States of."
''america'' doesn't call its self america, look on the map, look at the constitution, find me any official document that calls the place america.

that there's a lot of dim people that dont know whats their country is called does not alter that

You know you are talking BS don't you? The Bailiwicks of Jersey and Guernsey have their own governments and legislature (The basis of the legal systems of both Bailiwicks is Norman customary law (Coutume) rather than the English Common Law) plus they are two of the richest places in the world. Does the idea of people running things themselves disturb you, perhaps a little too much socialism for you?

Whether or not they follow English common law doesn't matter. Here in the US, only 49 states follow it. Louisiana follows Napoleonic law. Does that make Louisiana not part of the US? According to you, it would seem to.

Here's the ultimate test: are the people of the Channel Islands citizens of the UK?

Oh, wait! They are! Case closed! I win, you lose. The Channel islands are part of the UK.

Look you started all this stuff about the UK, you went on the attack and you don't like it that I responded. Tough, and here 'boy' is a small male child, don't bring your racism here.

No, you started it about the US when you presume to know what is being taught in American schools, despite being an entire ocean away from us.

By the way, you're the one using racial slurs, not me.

So according to you Australia isn't a proper country as it's part of the Commonwealth and now it's a sovereign state? Make your mind up.

I'm not making self contradictory statements. A nation being truly independent and being UN recognized are not interchangeable things. Need an example of this? Let's go back to members of the Warsaw Pact. They were all recognized by the UN as being independent sovereign nations. But we all know better.

Ah Mr 'I know two Latin phrases and I'll keep using them' you led us to believe you knew all about the UK and you don't know how we speak, how strange, time to admit you know nought, mate.

Apparently, my use of Latin phrases has got you so shook, that you feel the need to put it down. I detect some insecurities, there.

By the way, I'm not claiming to "know all about the UK." What I AM claiming is that you're lying to me (and, likely, to yourself), and that I know enough to not be fooled by your lies.

I was basing your age on your lack of adult responses which you are still reeling out. it must bother you a lot. it seems to have triggered an odd reaction, it's one of someone who has a big chip on their shoulder and seems to want to take it out on a random person who says something they disagree with. Luckily I have broad shoulders so am not fazed by your attacks, I can easily put you on ignore or just not bother, it's been a lazy day with nothing much to do but you'll forgive me if I don't pay you the attention you want tomorrow as I have things to do, and with that I'm off to bed. Enjoy the rest of your New Year's Day.

Ah, you call my age and maturity into question, yet you gloat like a child in the same breath. And you don't even have gloating rights. Not a shocker at all.

There are people out there who still don't think Australia and us Aussies exist! They bring me into an existential crisis every time.....

I don't know much history, nor geography at all. Nor do I have any interest in it whatsoever.

I know you were all waiting with baited breath for me to let you know that!

But I'm pretty sure Korea is the origin of all countries, policies, martial arts, and, well, everything.

A dude told me once.

He had pictures of a scroll in korean that he said proved it and everything!

It does. However, it uses the whole name - i.e., "The United States of America."

This is equivalent to "The People's Republic of China," "The Russian Federation, "The Islamic Republic of Iran," etc.

no Mexico and Canada are also noth americans, the country is the the United states of america, not america

they wernt south americans in the 1600 all just america

Yes, but the term "American" typically refers to someone from the US. Someone from Canada or Mexico would be called Canadian or Mexican. Since there isn't a United-Statsian term, "American" will refer to someone from the US. Unless you add in another descriptor, like "North American" or "South American" or "Native American."

Everyone in the US calls itself America. Most people outside the US call us America, too. Or just 'Murica.

What you are arguing is a technicality that doesn't exist in practice.

no it doesn't, you may use it that way, but it's not correct,

why are native american, americans no matter which country they live in ?, there not called native canadians are they, that because the who lot is america

I suppose you're not British then, because there's no such country that is simply called "Britain."

how on earth do you know what most people call your country, I've known it equally called the US or the states or the usa, it rarer that the british call it america, it's really only the stupid ones of which it seems we have fewer than you

Let's be real here: the debate over the demonym of US citizens is based on the desire to knock us off of some perceived "high horse."

If the US was some third world country that kept to itself, no one would be arguing with us over this.

Seems to me like we should actually be flattered.

That's merely equivalent to "UK citizen." If we are only US citizens and nothing else, then you are only a UK citizen and nothing else.
