Tell me something good...

My sense of smell is slowly returning after a bout of COVID. Unfortunately, that means I’m beginning to be able to smell my beloved, elderly cat’s necrotic lingual cancer. It nearly knocks your head off! 🤢

Also, I love the raven in the next village over. He's scruffy and filthy and he doesn't give a fiddlestick.
I have three generations of crows that I feed peanuts to. They bring the new babies to me every year to meet the peanut guy. I can nearly pet one of the grandparents now. They follow me and touch my head with wingtips as they swoop by. They never caw at me. Sometimes there are 15 or more swirling around me in the parking lot at work.

A friend of mine is 72 years old. He told me that 2 months ago, he found out when he did outside crescent kick, his hand could not touch his foot. He spent 2 months in stretching every day. Finally, his hand could touch his foot when he did outside crescent kick.

I respect his effort. But I just wonder, can he maintain his flexibility when he is 82?

I can’t seem to get that far. They caw when they see me putting out food but won’t come anywhere near me.

Don’t look straight at them. Use peanuts. Ignore them completely but toss peanuts into the air one at a time as you walk when you know they are watching.

Feed at the same time, in the same area every time. Consistently wear a recognizable article of clothing when feeding. Say a thing, or call to them as you feed . Don’t offer a free for all. It’s one at a time, same time, same place, every day. There will be one that is more bold than the others. You can recognize certain ones by their behavior. Build on that trust with the first one that gets real close. It’s generational so they tell each other about you, It can take a while to build a reputation, but it will build momentum over time.

I had some nice news from a student who doubted me when I was teaching Jow Ga. This comes from one of my students I used to train in Jow Ga applications. She made some wrong assumptions about my experience, and she now sees that. I'm not sure why she says, "My Style." I'm guessing she talking about my style of teaching. She had a toxic thinking of Kung Fu Teacher and Student relationship. Hopefully, that has changed in her as well.

Student Quote
"Imma be a punk and tell you thank you. Thank you -so much- for taking the time to help me with my training. Your advice, time, and knowledge still carry through to this day. This came up through a series of discussions over the years where the topic of my mentors (specifically kung fu) came up, and why your "style" was so impactful. For me, the fact that you genuinely cared about people's wellbeing as significant to and with their development was absolutely essential and evident. The same things that you said in the beginning and your philosophy have stood the test of time and engagement. Blah blah, I appreciate you and your perspective is missed.

ha ha ha. The funny thing about losing my sense of smell was that it seemed like I was breathing the cleanest air in the world. It was also the most concerning thing for me because I wasn't able to tell if I was breathing in harmful chemicals.

Some guys I game with made jokes that I can now stay in the bathroom longer.

Same l9cation yes, but the time does vary by an hour or two.

I’ll don my Kendo armour…
Say a thing, or call to them as you feed .
I do have a clicking sound I’ve tried after reading about this.

One crow at a time? That’s hard because wood pigeons, robins, crows and magpies all come at once and I don’t want to inhibit that.

I’ll try it, thank you🙏🏽

Magpies are great fun! Robins breast is tasty! Wood pigeons are dolts.

I meant one peanut at a time, not one bird. The bravest, most dominant bird is the one that will get the peanut if you drop the peanut near yourself. That’s the bird to befriend.
