This is really about opinion in the matter of the subject. I do agree with you and disagree as well.
So, it boils down to opinion, and you agree and disagree, but we are wrong because we don't agree with you? All righty, then
I just believe that todays MMA is a style and is limited. I don't mean to put the sport down as I enjoy it as well, but it has been brought to my attention that when you add rules to something it becomes a style.
What style/type of martial arts do you do that has no limits or rules? The regulations for MMA were put there for the safety of the fighters.
I do believe MMA should be called something entirely different and not MMA. When you watch the sport as a fan and not knowing anything about the arts you become a kid. I have seen many kids beating there brains out or claiming to know so called mma and you know what they don't know baloney about the sport.
So kids imitate what they see without knowing what they are doing? And this started with the UFC? Guessing you weren't around in the 70's with the beginning of the kung fu movie craze. I imagine before that era, kids imitated the cowboys from the big screen.
Why do these athletes fight in a cage? Is for the same reason you would or entirely different? Some people want to test themselves. Some people do full contact stick fighting, ala Dog Brothers. Others fight in a cage or a ring. All takes guts to step up.
When I mean limited I am referring to the rules in the cage. Here is a link to a set of rules set by the Association of Boxing Commissions. Here is the link:

Would you be happier if there were no rules? Again, what martial art do YOU do that has no rules?
But like I said it all boils down to opinion.
