Tyson vs Paul

I know fighters who have helped their opponents finish the fight on their feet. Exhibitions often do it. Fighters who are called in last minute to provide an opponent do it. Mostly they do it because it isn't cool to bash a guy you are better than.

I can fully understand jake Paul seeing Mike Tyson in real trouble out there doing that.

Especially with Mike coming off a bunch of injuries. Obviously had dicky legs. And needed that fight as a developmental goal to get in shape and achieve something.

My issue is Mike probably wasn't medically fit to fight. And was at real risk in there.

Agree. I did wonder if Tyson go paid more for finishing the fight.

Why?

Most combat sports don't pay well. Mostly because promoters are trash.

If any fighter can circumvent that. Good luck to them.
Why does Paul want to be ranked?

Well he doesn't need the money, he's already rich and showed up to the fighting sporting a $1M necklace.

So he represents someone who actually boxes out of love for the sport. So on that level it's hard to not admire the skill he's obtained in just a few years. Now if he just adds some wisdom and humility, he might just turn out ok. I think he has a lot of good fights in his future.

He was medically cleared.

And getting in the Ring always has risks, but he's Iron Mike Tyson.

"To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for. Thank you."

His body, his choice. And certainly not the first fighter to get cleared for a sanctioned bout with a pre-existing condition.

He went 16 minutes and walked out on his own two feet after taking enough damage to maim most people.

It's just the way, I don't know how else to put it. We get in there to battle, could give a damn about the news, the YouTubers, and definitely not medical establishment that prefers you go out quietly, take your pills, and pay your bills.

Agreed. Get paid while you can. Money pays the bills, at the end of the day.
That's the reality of it. There's no guarantee that the opportunity will come around again. I think Tyson and Jake Paul have an upcoming documentary coming up on Netflix.

I don't know about the rank part. I think getting ranked and making money are 2 different things. I think Jake Paul likes the money more than he cares about being ranked.

It's possible that that the boxing industry will have a new format or even a new organization that specifically caters to what Jake is doing. The most important thing to remember is that Jake was well know before he started boxing. I wonder how that will play out for boxers with no social media following.
