Tyson vs Paul

I know fighters who have helped their opponents finish the fight on their feet. Exhibitions often do it. Fighters who are called in last minute to provide an opponent do it. Mostly they do it because it isn't cool to bash a guy you are better than.

I can fully understand jake Paul seeing Mike Tyson in real trouble out there doing that.

Especially with Mike coming off a bunch of injuries. Obviously had dicky legs. And needed that fight as a developmental goal to get in shape and achieve something.

My issue is Mike probably wasn't medically fit to fight. And was at real risk in there.

Agree. I did wonder if Tyson go paid more for finishing the fight.

Why?

Most combat sports don't pay well. Mostly because promoters are trash.

If any fighter can circumvent that. Good luck to them.
Why does Paul want to be ranked?

Well he doesn't need the money, he's already rich and showed up to the fighting sporting a $1M necklace.

So he represents someone who actually boxes out of love for the sport. So on that level it's hard to not admire the skill he's obtained in just a few years. Now if he just adds some wisdom and humility, he might just turn out ok. I think he has a lot of good fights in his future.

He was medically cleared.

And getting in the Ring always has risks, but he's Iron Mike Tyson.

"To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for. Thank you."

His body, his choice. And certainly not the first fighter to get cleared for a sanctioned bout with a pre-existing condition.

He went 16 minutes and walked out on his own two feet after taking enough damage to maim most people.

It's just the way, I don't know how else to put it. We get in there to battle, could give a damn about the news, the YouTubers, and definitely not medical establishment that prefers you go out quietly, take your pills, and pay your bills.

Agreed. Get paid while you can. Money pays the bills, at the end of the day.
That's the reality of it. There's no guarantee that the opportunity will come around again. I think Tyson and Jake Paul have an upcoming documentary coming up on Netflix.

I don't know about the rank part. I think getting ranked and making money are 2 different things. I think Jake Paul likes the money more than he cares about being ranked.

It's possible that that the boxing industry will have a new format or even a new organization that specifically caters to what Jake is doing. The most important thing to remember is that Jake was well know before he started boxing. I wonder how that will play out for boxers with no social media following.

Mike stayed in the middle of the ring most of the time. Jake let him. Mike did not try to set traps. Mike would slip (defend) but not counter. Neither one tried to walk the other down and finish with a KO.
We don't know that if the fight was fixed. Tyson wasn't there to KO Paul. He was there to get his $20 million. In the ring after the fight, Tyson was talking about a rematch or fighting Jake's brother Logan.
This fight doesn't prove who can beat who, age or martial arts. The question is how long is the public willing to pay for these types of fights (e.g., WWE)?
No one knows all the agreements that were made except Jake and Mike. There is only what happened before, during and after the fight. When Ronda Rousey wins or loses a match in WWE, there is nothing to discuss. Because, the matches are predetermined. Jake is the lottery with many legitimate fighters calling him out.

Teddy, Mike's former trainer, gives his thoughts on the fight at 12:00 and 15:00...

The man who owns the gym I use used to be a boxer, his trajectory to a career in it being deflected by type I diabetes.

He suggested that Tyson did that peculiar glove biting through frustration as not being able to ‘unleash the fury’’on Paul. Sounds plausible….

Only through boredom as I almost did watching the fight.
So you've never actually boxed?

You're doing that spectator thing, Sir. Mike Tyson would murder you right now, bum leg or no bum leg, right?

I find it really frustrating to chat with "martial artists" who do this sort of thing, without any of the training, suffering, damage etc. never got in the Ring, but have a lot of words about boxing.

Help me understand. Maybe I'm missing something but as someone who's spent 2/3 of his life boxing I think you're talking out your butt.

Nobody, as far as I know, ever died during a choreographed boxing show.
That wasn't a choreographed fight.

Are you guys all on this "it's all fake!" Theme? Like YouTube is more important than the actual tape?

I've watched the fight over a dozen times (actually the whole card) and I have yet to find a single "staged" moment.

I'm glad you posted Teddy.

"Nobody" is right. As in nobody here on anywhere else on social media should be laying on Mike Tyson. But it's a very visible reminder of just how messed up social media has made people.

We are witnessing an age when a million people are suddenly boxing experts having never even wrapped their fists, let alone taken a solid 5, 10, 12, 15 ounces to the chest let alone their face.

Teddy can barely speak nowadays but he makes more sense in this clip than 99% of what I've been reading since the fight. He's basically telling us all "shut up and train, what's wrong with you"

Kind of reminds me of the importance of waking up early to go jogging, and hitting the gym, vs "logging on".

Good heavens no. I have a very well functioning brain and want to keep it that way.
You're doing that spectator thing, Sir.
Did I suggest I was doing anything else 🤔 I think not.

Not if he signed a fix contract he couldn’t 😉. Of course he could. He’s the greatest fighter of all time. This fight was his most boring of all time.

So you’ve never give an opinion on anything you haven’t tried? Never? Have you ever sent food back in a restaurant? Wine from the table? Commented on somebody’s singing? You don’t have to be a wonderful chef to know when food is unpalatable, wine is corked or a person is a bad singer. Tyson vs Paul was a terribly boring fight. The previous two fights on the bill were rather entertaining.
Help me understand.
I don’t think you’re capable of understanding much, possibly due to spending 2/3 of your life in the ring.
I think you're talking out your butt.
How uncouth of you! I think you need to read a child’s biology book to see that simply isn’t possible.

The one thing that people have to keep in mind about social media is that some people get paid for the traffic that they drive to their youtube channels. So, it benefits them financially to say things like "It's rigged" and then everyone hops on the band wagon like its gospel. These days, everything is a conspiracy, or everything is rigged. People just create unnecessary drama. Their lives must be good since they feel the need for extra drama.

No one accepts truth anymore because their lives are so filled with drama that if it's not something scandalous then it's not true.

Even better how many of these people have tried to spar or do anything that they used to do 20 -30 years ago. They think age doesn't make a difference, but it does. Those of us who train at an older age feel that difference every time we train. Hitting pads hard and landing hard shots on the heavy bag is not the same as sparring. Sparring takes more energy than just hitting bags and fighting takes more energy than sparring.

When they said "shorter round = more fighting" That's what an Older guy would say. It's more fighting for the older guy because he's not going to gas out quickly. I spar with guys 20 years younger than me and sometimes 30 years younger than me and it's not easy from a cardio and endurance perspective.

The only disappointment about the fight is that Tyson wasn't in the best condition to fight that night. It was never going to boxing like we see competitive boxing. If people want to see Jake Paul go against some top boxers, then he's going to fight his way up like the rest of the fighters and stop fighting how he has been fighting.

If people want to see Mike Tyson perform well then checkout some of his past fights. A 58 year Mike Tyson is no where near a 20 year old Mike Tyson.

Wow. So you're posting walls of text about boxing, and how boring the fight was.

But you're another spectator? Your whole thing here is to post emojis and garbage?

Blocked. I'm going to filter out people who just talk and never fight.

You are "that guy"

I mean, Mikes training clips right up to this month were more than enough.

So were Paul's.

These guys are both pinnacle martial artists. They don't worry about formalities.

It's a real shame I have to put people here like "Gyakuto" and "Hot Lunch" on ignore but they just have nothing to contribute and they should really log off and go, you know, do some pushups, jog, or maybe go spar.

Im sorry but I just have no patience left for these untrained, blustery people. They spend all their time typing away and not actually in a Ring. Good riddance
