Training mental resilience in self defence.

Hopefully that link works. There this is going to get weird.

I really don't know if yelling about ultraviolence really puts people in a frame of mind to fight under stress.

I have done that training and I don't think it is reflective of a real fight unless I was winning. Which isn't the important part i should be training for.

Competitive fighters don't do that. And instead train mentally to calm their emotions. Not heighten them.

But it is a super common method for training for self defence.

Yeah, I sorta get what he may be hinting at just from the snippet, to overwhelm their will to continue by being super over the top violent, but yeah it'd probably get things out of control, and yourself out of control whipping you up into a frenzy (which could lead to some long-term horrific consequences). Relying on emotion is too well.. unreliable. Controlled aggression/assertiveness makes more sense

The issue I have is I am the toughest dog on the street untill I get scared or hurt. And then suddenly that confidence disappears and I have to rely on something else.

And in self defence i have to do that fast.

I see that with a lot of street fighter vs pro videos. The street fighters have no dog in them. And they get placed in a position of hardship and give up.

Would you summarise what the link says for those of us who refuse to use FB because of their unethical practises and encouragement of informational chaos?

They are ground and pounding a kick shield and being told to get super violent because it will save them in a street fight.

Meh. I agree with the training but not the coach's explanation or mindset.

Oh I see. No, itā€™s a stupid thing to do because once a torrent of emotion is released, judgement goes out of the window leaving you susceptible to mistakes, poor observation and defeat. Cool detachment, clear observation and the scalpel-like application of technique is what the martial arts train us to do.

As Don Corleone said, ā€œNever hate your enemy - it clouds your judgement.ā€

I think the point of the training is to condition yourself to know what a violent mindset feels like so that in a fight, you are aware of it and can strategise around it.

Similar to psilocybin treatment for trauma or deliberate stress triggering for vestibular disequilibrium.

Or I'm thinking too much into it and just it's MMA/combat sports people doing weird marketing things.

Beautiful scene by the way. My favourite is when he enters the forest after the villagers picket a spear trench, and returns at dawn with weapons to distribute. He's so calm and collected.

You donā€™t have to experience a car crash to be a better driver.

Is that how it works?

The only evil thing in this photo is the wood chip wallpaper in the background!

Anywayā€¦back to the topic of the threadā€¦.

He is much maligned by Hollywoodā€¦

Isn't he the son of the most evil deity in the ancient Babylonian pantheon? Like father like son as far as I'm concerned.

The guy talking in the video looks and sounds exactly how I expect an expert in ancient Mesopotamian demonology should!

As was said in ā€˜thatā€™ filmā€¦evil against evil. My enemyā€™s enemy is my friend. Watch the whole video perhaps.

Irving Finkel is hilarious and so knowledgable!
