McDojo's...I'm Lovin' it!

Ha, cool. That's pretty dang neat. Yeah, one of my instructors was in a knife fight before he was in ATA TKD. He was in Tang Soo Do, 2nd degree. He was walking out of a casino boat onto the dock and some guy came up behind him and put a knife to his throat. My instructor got cut on the chin, but didn't get cut vitally, threw the guy over his back, and beat the crap out of him.

THe only way to ultimately teach knife attacks is practice and also experience. I know certification and all, but that's only half of it.

Our Grappling is about the same, only we've gone a bit intense in some ways. I used to go to private classes, no fee, but me, some of my instructors, and a few classmates would grapple for 1-2 hrs Fridays nights after the place cleard out. Pretty awesome, just us. Maybe 3-5 people. Really fun. plenty of practice. I'm still amateur. I took Judo for a year when I was younger, but stopped after a while. Some of it stuck with me, but I still need ALOT of practice. But I enjoy a good grappling class. We substitute it sometimes for Sparring, too.

I like hearing about other schools and how they do things. cool.

I'm baaaack!!!...heh, I was busy since the beginning of April, but now I'm back...wowie! 312 topics to look at...and I only posted in like two or three out of all them...well, I guess it'd take too long to post wherever I wanted...heheh

P.S. can we work on the rep points, please?

Eh, you'll find McDojos in any organization. I've always been very wary of the ATA, however. I mean, I went to their site, www.ataonline.com, and took a look at their media section. I'm sorry, but the masters sparring session is a total ****ing joke. Each of them gets hit way too many times, and they throw too many spinning kicks at the worst possible moments. Then there's the master's board break video. The only one who breaks wood is using fake wood. How do you tell? Take a look at the last kick. It's a spinning crossing through two boards. First, he doesn't even follow through the boards, yet they snap. Second, look closely at where the two boards break. They break in two different places. These are MASTERS??????

Now, ShaolinWolf, don't take this personally. I know that even in the worst of organizations, there can be really good schools. Yours sounds like it's a good one. I, for one, know how that's like. I'm in a WTF school. There are people who'll bash WTF, and there are some pretty bad WTF schools out there. There are also some pretty bad ITF schools out there. There is no such thing as a perfect organization. That's something that everyone should keep in mind.
I agree this organization looks like an absolute joke... i don't think i would ever join one of their schools....

eh...It's not necessarily the grandmaster...he tries to gear it toward kids, because that's the largest section to join nowadays, but the ATA school I go to is no Joke! We do plenty more than just TKD, as I've stated above. There are kenpo schools out there that are just jokes. And ATA is not as bad as the media section looks. THey are a community Martial Arts organization.

You can't say that without having been to one of the good schools. There are horrible schools out there within ATA, ITF, EPAK, and such. I know plenty of people who have bad experience from ATA schools, not mine, just other schools. So, I know that those of you who have had a bad experience with ATA would post here, but then what's the point? I just stated the obvious...organization does not matter, just the person teaching the school.
