went to Best Buy to window shop tablets.
Electronic shops used to be more fun to go to, more stuff to look at, and to play with.
And BB now has their people bug you every other minute if you need help. Hey y'all, you are wearing bright blue polos, I will find you.
Besides, I hate that store, the return policy is stupid.

Anyhow, now I am trying to consider if I want a 2-in-1 laptop, or a surface pro, and if I need 16 gig of RAM for what I want (drawing programs) or can do with 8.
If the RAM can be added (isn't soldered in), then RAM is relatively cheap. My view is always get as much as you can.

And, yeah, it used to be more fun to shop electronics. I do usually manage to get BB folks to back down. Maybe I have a resting ***** face when I shop.

I need to check out more details.
the Lenovo Yoga looks nice although a ton of people complain there is a problem with the WiFi.
the surface pro looks like the typical Microsoft deal: Pay extra for everything, in this case keyboard, pen, mouse....

And I need to see if the RAM needs to be added or comes with the machine. (I am inclined to look for the 16gig)

Some RAM will come with it, but many (not all) can be upgraded. My current PC came with 16GB, and I immediately upgraded to 32GB (I run virtual machines, so more is better). My point for you was that one that comes with 8GB isnt' a problem, if it's upgradeable to at least 16GB, as that's a relatively inexpensive upgrade if you decide you want it later.

Man, it's one of those days when everything just hurts.

And it's my Monday.
Sorry to hear that. Any chance of a conversation with a hot tub with Epsom salts and your favorite beverage of choice?
Sorry to hear Buka, hope you feel better soon. But wow, me too today! My litany of injuries and strains are bad today, and funnily enough AH that is exactly what I was planning on for today, epsom salt bath and a tea! We must all be in sync.

I actually have designated every Monday as International Rest/Bath Day for me, has become a nice little self-care relaxed day ;)

Were you trying to link to one of the videos? The link just goes to their FB page.

EDIT: I think the video you're referencing is the "Man Fights Two Police Officers" (I couldn't figure out how to get a direct link, either). It doesn't look like those cops know how to use a PR-24 (or a standard baton) effectively. The 2-hand swing with something that short probably actually reduces the power, and definitely slows down the return swing (which can be used for defense). Also, that dude just doesn't seem to feel much - not sure how much a good hit would even help, so long as it's to the body.
As I remember it, the PR-24 was great for a blocking tool but not much else. It was most often used as a conventional stick for strikes. We did learn some strikes using the handle but they never felt right or powerful to me.

Is RAM still the cheapest upgrade you can do to a PC? The more the better.

on a PC, I'm sure.
Laptops are a pain though, they are not easily opened up anymore, and the slimmer, the bigger the pain, and I am contemplating if I need the 16gig vs the 8, to the tune between 2 and 300 dollars....

my PC had 4gig, and the photoshop elements always ran slow on it, even if I did not do a lot of work on a picture.
but PC is old now, still runs on 7...

Seems as likely to be a slow processor as a lack of RAM.

I'm far from expert with a tonfa (essentially the same weapon), but I think there's more force generated with a proper swing using the side handle (it adds a pivot to the swing, for more speed). It's probably as good as a regular baton for striking if you use it as such, but a 2-handed swing actually reduces the speed - it's neither heavy enough nor long enough to benefit from the second hand.

Except where they are soldered, it's not that big a deal. Dell, for instance, still considers RAM a user-upgradable part. It's usually a thousand or so tiny screws to remove the back (though I had one Dell that actually had little slide locks - I miss that computer), then just pop them out and pop the new ones in. Anyone who is comfortable tinkering with computer hardware would get it done in 5 minutes. (NOTE: I don't recommend it for anyone who isn't comfortable tinkering with computer hardware - the tiny parts make it seem complicated, and those screws are easy to lose.)

One thing you might wish to try is simply wiping and reinstalling Windows on your old PC. If that hasn't been done in a while, you might be surprised how much difference that could make. If you bought a new SSD drive and had that installed (probably $100-150, plus installation...again a happy tinkerer could do that for you) and maybe added some RAM, you might feel like you had a new PC for a couple of years. One bonus with this strategy (new drive) is that you can get an external enclosure for the old drive and transfer all your files over, then keep the drive as a backup.

Of course, all that might feel more troublesome than it's worth, in which case a new computer is the way to go.

Photoshop: 16gb minimum and go for no less than an i5 processor. And if you working with a lot of photos, the bigger the hard drive the better, go with solid state drives because they are faster.

And as previously stated, Dell laptops it is fairly easy to update RAM if needed. Tons of YouTube videos showing you how to do it

good stuff here.
I have 2 more models of that PC sitting around, I was considering to turn this old machine into my 'typewriter' and set one of the others up for more serious work.
I just need to do this. (I think I am getting old, it feels like a chore these days to clean up a computer. It used to be more exciting...)

Woke up this morning feeling lousy. As the morning progressed I felt worse. I knew then, deep down inside, what I needed to do to feel better...... Qigong, Taijiquan and a nice long walk outside...... but nooOOOOOoooooo I had to go to work.... and I still feel lousy..... I was able to do Baduanjin in my PC room, I felt a little better, but it was not enough...... and a full 8 to 10 year till retirement too...DANG IT!!!!!

I thought at one point you were going back to school, man. Stinks you're in a job you don't enjoy. There are many 2210 series jobs open in the federal government. Not sure what you might qualify for, but might be worth looking on usajobs. 0105 series also has some IT specialists from time to time.

I have my POUND class on Mondays - so that's kind of a bath day for me by default. After I come crawling out of class, drumsticks in my teeth, my tongue flung over my shoulder, a regular shower is just not a safe proposition because it requires standing. :)

I think those are symptoms of a severe mud deficiency.

Had an interesting discussion with @gpseymour about ki applications outside martial arts. As he continues to design his program, I was interested whether he intended to keep the ki technique testing as part of the curriculum. He can tell you more about that part - there really is a challenge when it comes to keeping the balance between the strictly physical aspect of the art and getting too woo-woo, drifting into the realm of flying over roofs and running up walls.

I noticed that certain ki extensions I learned as part of the training ended up manifesting in my other fitness activities. For instance, the widening and downward extension we use as a way to keep from getting picked up and subsequently body slammed, works very well in POUND, where you spend A LOT of time in a wide squat. Both belly dancing and Barre are good places to apply the upward extension to keep balanced when you are on tiptoe.

That is really, really fascinating to me. I only was introduced to ki when I trialled an aiki karate style last year, and it blew my mind, as I came from years of doing a very hard external style to this. For sure I think it's such a worthy thing to keep within a curriculum, but of course like you said without getting too woowoo and getting ungrounded. A balance is always good. But I reckon it would have a boatload of applications outside of class for sure.
