I got good sharpening stones. Good ones. Not cheap crap.
I don't think a blade is sharp enough until hair leaps off in fear as the blade approaches.
A sharp blade should be able to split hair lengthwise.
I do most of my sharpening on a belt, admittedly, but for the really really nice knives, it's all hand work.

I ate to much....

Mrs Xue us on her way to China....

And you know what....I think I will go to the basement and do about a hour of taijiquan

Also ate far too much!

I also love your excursions to go do taijiquan in the basement :)

I also love the fact that you have a BASEMENT! So cool...

The box o' swords I ordered for myself came in today too. It ended up being a box of 2 swords, 7 knives and two flasks. I'm kinda happier with that.

On a less positive note, yesterday while we were having family over, the power went out. When it came back on,the lights and water work...but the wifi, cable and more importantly heat(boiler) went out. We're using heaters minimally to avoid a surge, and any hot water we want has to be boiled on the gas stove first.

Not fun. I hope you get all that straightened out soon.

counted 71 spam posts this morning on MT from 3 different posters;

This type of thing killed 2 other sites I use to go on. There has got to be a way of blocking this. Wonder if you can block based on language in title. They are either only numbers or in Chinese

OK Now greater that 71, attack is happening now and it appears to be slowing down my ability to post. Typing is got a major lag. Wonder if they're going for a DOS attack

There is another site I'm on that has rules you can't post any new threads the first 3 days after you register and then for the first 2 weeks you can only post once every 5 min. Perhaps that would help some.

I've been wondering that, too. I don't know the settings for XenForo, but most forum systems have the ability to set things like that. The delay between postings would be key. Probably just limiting it to every minute for your first X posts would be effective.

I've assumed for a while that this was a weak DOS attempt. I think the enforced delay between postings (10 seconds??) makes it hard to execute.

I have been wondering that as well. Also had sites that did not allow titles with less than, I believe, 5 characters. I am also wondering if you can filter by language, they titles of all posts are eiher 2 numbers or mainly in Chinese with a little english

Unless you are dealing with a bot net.

3 different poster names were used this time....testing?

I'm sure something could be done to filter for English alpha characters (required), at least.

True, but it would reduce their ability to tie up the server - I think there's somewhat less activity on a post attempt than on an actual posting (no DB write action, at the least). Of course, a full-on DOS (or DDOS) would supply enough requests to shut things down.

They've done that before with at least two at a time. That it's not consistently so is part of what has me thinking this is either a human or a very weak bot attack. I wonder if it's not one of the obviously disturbed people who have been banned in the last few months.
