Well, hotdigeddy....

Turns out the 'under the weather' was an aneurysm....a shift/bleeding stroke....
Husband had surgery yesterday, to remove the blood from his skull.
He is doing better now, talking almost normal, sitting up and eating real food.

Happy Thanksgiving to us.
Now I only need to deal with the insurance, because, well, they never asked for the card, and I am rather sure that ER visit, neuro surgery and a week in ICU won't be in the holiday budget this year....
But hey, he's around to drive me batty! :)
so I won't sweat the small stuff!
Oh man! Great to hear that he's on the mend. Hope he has a swift recovery!

Active shooter event a mile from our hospital. 9 wounded, 3 dead, including one police officer from a university force.
Pissed off my anti-gun sister by pointing out what a shame it was that not a single person in that building was trained and equipped to defend themselves.

What a pitty that this nut case was allowed to buy guns....

Oh well, not in the argumentative mood...got the night off from 'sleeping' in the hospital.
Hubby was doing great, ahd a scary couple of seizures Thursday night that threw back his recovery some, but is doing much better today, after he kept me up pretty much all night, tunring on his stomach, kinking tubes, pulling off leads, you name it, then one time I woke up with him sitting on the edge of the bed, scaring me to death.
But he is getting ornery, which I take a sign of improvement. He was ok with me leaving, so I too that chance. Not with a light heart, but I have to take care of some stuff tomorrow after work. And buy some food I guess.
Ah, the fun continues!

Woah, lets be rational here ... that could be very dangerous
Actually, warfrin/coumadin is counter acted by Vitamin K, which is in leafy greens in abundance. It makes you blood clod, normally a nice thing, except when you take meds to even not do that.
The new meds have the 'benefit' of not being affected by VitK. So you get injured while on it, well, Good Luck!

Mrs Wu punched me in the stomach....then asked did that hurt... I said no...so she punched me 4 more times..... said...did that hurt...I said no..... so she hit herself in the stomach.... and said that does hurt.....and hit me one more time..... I said..... nope...still doesn't hurt...... but if you like... I could fake it... or did you want to hit yourself again.....

Unless you've learned how to predict the future, there is no way to stop potential nutters from buying guns.

However, I will propose this.
Since this was a religiously motivated Christian terrorist, I suggest we mandate background checks, waiting periods and psych evals before anyone is allowed to attend church. Further, any church preaching meanness should be shut down.

No, that's not a serious suggestion, but it makes as much sense as blaming guns for the actions of this Christian terrorist.

Coumadin is affected by Vitamin K, but to reverse it we give plasma. Much faster.

The advantage of the newer anticoagulants is that because they're a much more standardized dosage, you do not need to get poked for lab work all the time.
This is why patients, cardiologists and neurologists love them.
The drawback is that they cannot be effectively reversed.
This is why ER and trauma people hate them.

a step in the right direction! ;)

Pretty much sums it up.
But it sounds like trading safety in for convenience....
That new stuff was supposed to have an 'antidote' but of course, when the doctors haven't heard of the drug yet, it's safe to assume they don't know about that either....

There is no reversing agent for savaysa, although like all anticoagulants you can obtain SOME degree of reversal simply by loading the person with plasma. You're basically trying to load them up with clotting factors faster than the drug can break them down.
But I don't understand how a neurologist or neurosurgeon could possibly not be aware of it. It's been in human trials for a couple years, and was approved by the FDA early this year. If I'm aware of it, they should be too.

I se I made a typographical error....in post #8169...ok it was more of a mistake than a typo..... that's what I get for reading Taoist/Taiji stuff about Wu Wei and Wuji before I post....

Should have been

Well, the doc who prescribed it is full of manure.

And I have no idea why it had not crossed the surgeon's desk. We are in the province, after all....

They have made this job so computer dependent it kinda suck when you computer stops working correctly. It's going to be one of those nights

ahh to be 18 again.....and entirely clueless as to the possibilities of what could go wrong on a long trip....in the winter

Whats that supposed to mean...

And what are you going on about talking about this dangerous. A bunch of teenagers piled in an suv can safely travel across the country, even durring the winter... provided theres several gas stations (hopefully they will have lots of unhealthy snacks) on the way to the destinationm heck, I could probably drive from texas, to florida, then california and make it safely back to Texas. I bet $20 I could do it blindfolded, backwards, with no seat belt, and in the wrong lane and still be safe!

Yup....you just proved my point
