Intercessory Prayer

Gyakuto

Senior Master
There are calls for sincere prayers for a certain famous spiritual leader who is currently very ill. For his sake, I would strongly suggest you do not comply. This explains the reasons-

Anyone seen the excellent ā€˜Conclaveā€™?

Well, maybe people are being prayed for because they are more gravely ill and more likely to suffer complications, rather than the other way around?

Also, your argument kind of pulls the rug from under your own feet. You, I presume, would contend that supernatural assistance is not involved, and the only way cause and effect can be the other way around is if it is.

No, I haven't. Empirical rationalism is of limited use when trying to understand the mysteries of religion, and I have better things to do with my time.

No, I haven't.
Youā€™ve commented on something you havenā€™t bothered reading?

ā€œā€¦you canā€™t understand because you donā€™t believe.ā€ ā€œā€¦ my ki/chi magic doesnā€™t work in the lab in front of skeptics.ā€Itā€™s a get out clause used all too often when there is a weak counter argument.

That's right. It's possible to form a judgement simply on what you say about it in your post, and I cannot be arsed with what promises to be some very dull reading.

To be honest, I'm not sure it's even worth replying. One cannot argue about deeply held beliefs like your absolute faith in your own intellect. At a certain point there are no further arguments to be made, and you haven't addressed the one about your position undermining itself.

It has got to be a strange world you live in where Everything can be proven, and the empirical evidence is easily seen. It must be some kind of static bubble.

I am an admittedly compulsive automation/control engineer. Every 'what-if' problem in a potential process must be sleuthed out. Despite best efforts, sometimes things happen that I did not anticipate. The same in life.

I also own a large cattle operation and (2) martial arts schools. And, I was a pretty darn good Olympic TKD competitor, not to mention being an avid outdoorsman.

I have seen too many things I cannot explain and have had too many 'should have been dead' encounters not to believe in a higher power. Nothing else makes sense.

Grace is an action verb. I see it almost every day.
