She wants to take more money out of the working citizen's paycheck.

In here goal to transform America into communist Russia, socializing everything from food to medicine, here's the latest:

"I think there are a number of mechanisms" that are possible, including "going after people's wages, automatic enrollment."

Your medical care system confuses Non Americans. As it seems to be that if you can afford it you buy your medical care and if you can't afford it the State pays for it but obviously money is rationed for this care. I gather privately paid for healthcare is probably better and you get more choice over treatments etc. So what she's saying is that those who can pay for healthcare but are sponging off the state will be made to pay for their healthcare instead so that the money that is available will be there for the poor. That sounds very unlike communism and very much like capitolism with care for the poor thrown in!

I don't trust Hillary with the presidency. I disagree with Monadnock, however. It's not about creating a communist state, its about expanding the powers of the corporatist state. When we start talking about going directly after people's wages and automatic enrollment, that's code for taking the poor's money and giving it to the rich and forcing people to get insured by the company that donated the most to her campaign. The Clintons are part of the corporate machine that is slowly eroding everything that America was supposed to be. If she is the democratic nominee, I won't be voting for her.

Like I've said a thousand times:
A woman for president? Absolutely! This woman? HELL NO
A black person for president? SURE! This one(Obama)? Hell NO

I do not trust any President they do not control the government the house does, we need to get rid of all politician they all lie and then turn there back on the American people.

Tes3, our medical care system also confuses Americans.

One in seven of our fellow citizens has no health care coverage.

Our system of health care is less about providing health to those who are sick, and more about providing money from all of the citizens to the Pharamceutical Companies and companies that own hospitals.

Although it is the most expensive health care system on the planet, it works in a genuinely mediocre way, if you are fortunate enough to be one of the six out of seven who has some form of health care coverage.

We moan over here about our National Health Service but to be honest you could do a lot worse than go the same way! Everyone who is working has National Insurance deducted from their pay, this means healthcare is free for everyone. Of course some people chose to pay for insurance and receive private healthcare which is rarely no better than the NHS but does mean you get a private room, more choice for food and less waiting time to get to hospital.

Who would have thought that England, glorious old England, has become "communist Russia".

How can you live with yourself, knowing that the government takes your money to pay for someone else's healthcare? Does it make you feel like you're Stalin?

Damn You Tony Blair!

No, they remain England, the country we declared independance from.
How ironic who we have to choose from in this years election pool... More people that would tax us to death.

Perhaps you could begin by enumerating which services you wish to do away with.

Oh, and the phrase 'tax us to death' seems a bit hyperbolic. Can you please point me to someone who has died because of the tax structure of any nation?

Now that Dennis Kucinich is out of the race, I believe Hillary is the most competent of all of the candidates to be president. The government (so really us) pays for the medical care of the poor through medicare/ medicaid. I'm all for rolling back Bush's tax cuts. And before Bush, I hardly felt taxed to death. I was much better off in the nineties than I ever was in the new decade. Bushenomics did nothing but screw the por and middle class.

I can say that Bush's tax cuts benefited more people than Hellary's last foray into health care reform.

That said, the country will be a better place when rid of both Bushes and Clintons in Washington. As a nation, can't we do better than these?

This is the typical tangential offshooting tactic by most socialists. It's more fun to them to play on words than actually examine the intent of a statement. But I'll play along... afterall, politics has become nothing more than primetime news entertainment, rather than focusing on any substantive issues. I would be lieing to say I do not find some amusement in it, after all, you know I listen to Severin. :)

The government needs to provide the protection of our borders, and if needed, pre-emptively by making war.

They need to maintain our public lands and infrastructure (in part to support military transportation).

That's about all I really need them for. For giggles, maybe you can share your Santa's list and tell us what else we should be asking for...

It could be solved much quicker on a discussion of principles. I could show you how to add 2 numbers. A + B = C, and then attempt to write out the infinite possible problems it would solve, or, given the principle you could see where I am coming from.

I think things are best handled at a local level. So, now, lump all the things you think government should do and apply the local gov't principle. (You're a Kenpo guy, you know principles)

To the point of the original topic - My giving money so some illegals in California can go to a hospital is not going to where it should be, my bank account.

A couple of facts. You declared independance from the Kingdom of Great Britain not England. Secondly, it's clear many of you don't actually know what socialism is and equate it with communism. It's also clear a social concience is not something many would like to be burdened with. Is America then a 'me' society? Where the motto is what's mine is mine and bugger the rest of you"?
Taxes even in your country pay for many vital services, if you truly believe you shouldn't pay taxes you would leave, emigrate to some where you would be self sufficent.
As a matter of interest does your taxes pay for policing, sewage, street lighting, maintainance of roads, rubbish collection, education, fire and rescue services and such like?

Sorry to butcher the King's English. But you just made my last point...

Another distortion of the lefties. That if the gov't wuddn't thar to take our money, we wouldn't share it with nobuddy.

Police - yup
Sewage - Nope - private subsurfade disposal system here - we can even design 'em and install 'em ourselves in New Hampshire. Know what they did in the socialist's state of Massachusetts, the forced everyone into what's called Tile 5. Look that little beuaty up for some toe curling socialist pornography.

Rubbish - still can be found privately owned and run - thank you much
Education - public and private - although the lefties are doing there best to tear that down too. Y'all are just 2 smaht for us. Maybe ya shoudl rear our kidz 2.

Fire/Rescu - still some volunteer ones kickin around in the back woods. If you prefer to live in the city and help pay to protect the skyscapers from burnin, by all means.

Roads - I think I covered that one. Of course we use the roads to make jobs and colect more money than the roads are worth.

Thanks for playing :)

Did you ever wonder why we let you win that war of independance....?

Is America a 'me' society? What, exactly is wrong with self-reliance? Privately run charities feed and clothe the poor much more efficiently than government does, or is capable of. Efficiency isn't a word government uses often. Health insurance was a product of the twentieth century. Before then, the doctors would charge what they could, and if you couldn't pay, you'd go to a different doctor. Most of the high cost of health insurance, by the way, and you should all know this, is due not to the price of the services rendered, but, to the cost of malpractice insurance. The lawyers are more at fault for the high cost of medical care than doctors are. Hillary's foray into health care was all flash, no substance, by the way. John Edwards, a man who got rich on medical malpractice, is more at fault than Bill's wife.

I think we can start by reducing the military budget by 60%. We would still fund our military with more money than any nation on the planet. I bet that would give you a lot of your tax money back.

As for our public lands ... get the corporations off of them, or get them to pay a fair price for the use.

Infrastructure ... fix it. Local jobs delivering for the local economies and local taxes.

Elimante NAFTA and all the free trade agreements. And stop corporations from deducting taxes paid overseas from the burdens owed in this country. You would quickly see an end to undocumented workers coming to this country; because they would have jobs in their own countries.

And, with all the money we'd save, we be able to join England, and all the other civilized nations in the western world, and have universal health care for our citizens.
