For the street, better to learn non sport take down defense or grappling?

Granted, but it’s not limited to that, but also includes those tactics. The point was really to think more maliciously when it comes to combat situations, ie. blanded/blunt weapon, real ill intent. I prob didn’t coney my thoughts well enough.

Well you can certainly move in that fashion, but anyone going to that level of violence needs to consider the consequences of what they’re doing, both reciprocal on the part of your opposition, and legal in terms of the law. If some guy grabs your wife’s butt at a bar, and you going to gouge out their eyes and slice them up with a bladed weapon? If you’re a teacher at a school and a large student attacks you, are you going bash their head in with a blunt instrument?

Here a sports application has an advantage. Pinning someone down, locking their limbs, or choking them unconscious are simply more humane options, and they’re far easier to train in a controlled environment.
