In the following video the Guy is able to get tough enough to break a board and porcelain tile. at around 8 minutes into video he succeeds in breaking both. BUT, note that he breaking the board against the grain, not with it. Also, the board breaks evenly straight across the board as if mostly cut by a saw. I have broken many a pine board in my life (not as a martial artist but as a handyman) none of them broke straight as a ruler. And many shattered instead of a clean break in any direction. Especially across the grain. I also broke a few porcelain items and lots of terra cotta items. Especially there was a danger of slivers with the porcelain similar to glass. I never saw a straight line break unless it was scored first.

Comments?

Kid wouldn't survive 10 seconds in a fight.

So why would anyone give a damn about his videos.

Garbage, sorry.

Not impressed. Those tiles, you can stack a whole bunch of them, and I mean a bunch, place your knuckles against the top and just drop your shoulder with no bodyweight behind it and they'll all break like it's nothing.

Well one single tile like that wouldn't need to be pre cut. It'll snap if you breathe on it wrong (we just finished tiling a floor with those big ones). The board, who knows. Could've been grooved on one side. I couldn't see anything with the video slowed down though. Lol maybe he soaked it in water for a couple days first

I don't break boards I break faces lol

But seriously picking the correct type of wood and taking note of the grain of wood is important. They aren't just breaking any type of wood.

Oh? He asked for comments

I thought the video was garbage, and the Youtube personality is some child who is claiming to study some ancient art.

What do you think he is asking?
Well he's clearly posted the video, talked about it, the iron fist training, noted the straight line break, and asked for comments on that.

He didn't say give me any comment you like. If that was the case, then I think it'd be really cool to own a dragon, but man the responsibilities would be huge... Not only to train it right, but to ensure the least amount of destruction to your community. I mean, there's likely to be some, but sure it'd be worth it in the end. BUT can you really domesticate a dragon? That may be the real question...

If you look at that kid's channel is all click bait.

I don't know the first thing about " iron fist" conditioning aside from hitting bags and stuff, but I think his whole video failed the sniff test.

This is another example of someone who clearly isn't training, trying to monetize his channel. And he looks like a stiff breeze might kill him

Yes, you live in Australia, get a Goanna hatchling ( Lace Monitor ) In 5 years you will have a dragon. No fire, no wings, but a dragon no less.

Okay, to be more direct I am thinking that the Iron Fist video is fraud, fake, not real. As I noted my experience is that ceramic tile can be very fragile or strong for reasons that are beyond me. I just know that sometimes when I dropped one it would shatter. But never in a straight line. Other times it held up well to force.

Most board breaking videos I have seen the board breaks along with grain. Boards seem to be much stronger across grain. I have had pine boards break along the grain when dropped. However, when struck across the grain they are much stronger, And my experience is the breaks were never straight across 90 degrees from the edge.

So my belief is they are fake. But, I have been wrong in the past and this Karate is new to me. I was requesting comments about the authenticity of the alleged breaking.

NEXT VIDEO: "I thought the video was garbage, and the Youtube personality is some child who is claiming to study some ancient art."
Personally, I don't think the 3 year old child was "claiming to study some ancient art." It was breaking a board, as the other video was, and it was cute. But, again I could be wrong, that would not be uncommon, as my wife frequently points out.

Whew.......

Interesting thing about the iron palm training I did when I was doing the police/military version of Sanda, back when my shifu had me hitting trees, brick and concrete walls..... there was a specific sound you were listening for. You still were hitting hard, but that specific sound prevented injury while still toughing the hand. But this was all palm strikes

Now it is different with my Wing Chun sifu, I'm just hitting stuff...hard... but you start with a bag full of rice or beans and work you ray to a bag full of pebbles (small rocks not the cereal) And while doing that there are specific herbs yuo need to apply to your hands to prevent sever or protracted injury

I found this:

1.10.3 No Individual Bashing / Fraud Busting.
It is not our mission to out and expose frauds or decide who "sucks". Such discussions rarely lead anywhere other than to headaches, and lawsuits.

Clarification of rules: Interesting. I did not know that was a rule. Entirely my fault. I must not have read the rules closely enough. Apparently, any comment critical of Karate actions is prohibited. So this is the same policy as in North Korea, China and Russia where criticism of those in charge gets you punished or disappeared.

Apparently, my posting of the video was not a violation, however, my questioning of it's accuracy was a violation. My questioning of it's accuracy was intentional. I have only been involved in Karate slightly over a year. I have been watching lots of U-tube videos and have have questions over what is legitimate and what is not. Say comparing the Karate Nerd to George Dillman. I will no longer post those kinds of questions here.

I apologize, It was not my intent to violate rules. My intent was to educate myself on what acts were legitimately Karate and what were not for my own education. I will take those questions somewhere else.

NOTE: I am not intending to be critical of such a policy. Only trying to clearly state what the policy is in clear words.

Note 2: The list of policies is 49.5 pages long in my word processing file at 12 point font, 15,366 words, 93,735 characters. As written in the version date February 14, 2014, and not including amendments and updates.

I didn't see anything too bad. Perhaps the post in question could have been worded in a "nicer" way to say what we would probably mostly agree with. Not being critical - better too strict than too lenient.

If that was true, this site would be a ghost town. :) Just see the moderator's post as a friendly reminder (which it was) not to get too close to the (sometimes) fuzzy lines. There is plenty of room allowed for spirited discussion within MT's parameters IMO thanks to our moderators' efforts. They're worth every dollar they're paid. :D

Chris Chan a noted wing chun shifu.

Demos hitting cement post... Chris .watching the vibrations caused in the house, talks about the effects of getting hit by such a conditioned fist.

Did a lot of "iron" conditioning myself, a long time ago.

In Tibetan white crane , they have a practice called "burning hand" similar to iron palm...
with the exception that the hand is soaked in Dit Da Jow (跌打酒) "iron hitting wine" as hot as a person could take.

Mike talking about soaking his hand in it, along with his training.

Brenden Lai, a noted n-mantis, shifu when asked about it, said "it's not needed in this day and time, it's to damaging to the body." Not something he taught to the general public....

A side note: My Taiji teacher had an interesting demonstration he would perform. He would barely touch one of the pine trees growing in our practice place. Tapping the pine needles of one of the branches, soon all the needles in the entire tree could be seen vibrating with the taps.
