The biggest reason for me would be. Because the average person cant.
Ive seen is said here by someone (sorry cant remember who) but the question was how long it takes the average person to get a black belt. Their replay was the average person cant.
It takes guts to get in front of people and do something that at first feels awkward and determination to get up off the couch and get your butt too class. Like others have said its not to get in shape. I walk 3 miles a day at least at my job. Im not overweight so its not for weight loss.
Then there is that Zen like feeling when it all just clicks and I GET IT. The idea that I am learning something the average person doesnt know, or understand heck they can even comprehend what it is Im doing. Then I see my instructor or clips of others that have been at martial arts a bit longer than me. To watch them move just motivates me to want to improve.
