the worst blow

threw a high kick and got a tiger claw to the groin he busted my cup in 3 pieces and i walked funny for about 2 weeks. I had an intentional knife edge to my knee in a tournament slid my knee cap [ it hurt like hell i cried and everything think of danny larusso in karate kid no mr miyagi to put it back in place for me.i totally paid him back next year] I walked in to a retreating rea kick by a guy aptly named "oakfoot" i could have blown out the candles on my cake from across the gym. I had my shoulder dislocated and another my wrist/finger broke from a knife defense technique

A straight punch to the solo-plexus from my Karate teacher. That dropped my like a sack of potatoes.
I landed wrong from a shoulder throw in Judo once. That was extremely painful, and made me feel like I was going to throw up.
Also got a bruised rib practicing the ground work in Judo. That hurt for weeks.

The joy of learning new things.

My worst blow happened to my foot. I was doing a front kick during sparing and caught a hammerfist straight down on my big toe. I didn't go to the doctor (young, dumb teenager at the time) so I don't know if it broke, but I couldn't walk without limping for a couple of weeks.

There have been a few pretty bad hits I've taken over the years.

One of the worst was almost breaking my foot during my II dan test. I was sparring the other guy who was testing with me and we both went to kick at the same time. He stands almost a foot taller than me. As I was coming around executing my tolyo chagi he was chambering for a side piercing kick. My instep smashed right against his knee. Fortunately I had a shin/instep pad on or I'm pretty sure my right instep would've been pulverized. The annoying thing was I kept kicking him with the hurt foot! I also had to do breaking after that. That was fun. You can see me almost pass out on the video right after I put my foot through some boards.

When I told the Korean doctor in the ready-med what happened the next day when I went to get my foot checked out he looked at me like I was an idiot.

In retrospect maybe I should've told my instructor my foot really hurt when he asked if I was OK... Nah.

Another time was when I was sparring my instructor. I saw an opening and started coming in for a picture perfect reverse punch. Just as I was moving in and shifting my body weight into the punch he did a back piercing kick and caught me right in the chest. I literally went airborn (like you see in pictures in MA magazine when some guy sticks his foot out and the other guy jumps into the air, except I wasn't jumping I was getting sent via airmail). Both feet came off the ground and I landed maybe 4 feet away on my back. I went to sit up and the pain in my chest and ribs was so bad I couldn't get up. I had to rol over and do a push up to get on my knees so I could stand. I'm fairly sure I cracked some ribs; it took a few weeks to get back up to 100% and not being able to get off my back made teaching at my club difficult (to say nothing of getting out of bed in the morning; I basically had to roll onto the floor).

Good times.

at least he said "inside" instead of SHAFT!!!!! then it would have been something descriptive out of a porno!

That is true.

"... it shoved the pointy end of it straight up under the jewels.... "

This happened to my son at a tournament, though there was no injury involved. He went down like a sack of rocks, curled into fetal position, and cried. Poor kid.

Then he got up and finished the match. :)

I have a couple. First one, I was sparring a farrier. They have legs of steel from holding up horses all day. He caught me under the ribs with a side kick. HARD. It felt like all of my guts were pushed up into my chest cavity, I saw the big black dots around the edges of my vision, and I went down. Not sure how long I was down; don't think I actually went out, but I was really out of it. The weird thing was that it didn't really hurt; it just kind of suffocated me.

The other one was when I caught a back leg roundhouse in the ribs; I was turning toward it, so there was contributory momentum on both sides. It separated 3 of my ribs from the cartilage. It really hurt, but I didn't want to be a wuss, so I sparred for another hour and a half, until class was over. I didn't realize I needed to go to the doctor for a day or two.

The worst pain was when I did a jump spinning back kick on an uneven lawn and tore the ligaments on both sides of my ankle. I actually screamed, it hurt so bad.

I count two: One for each Dojang I have been a member of.

Dojang one: I just made black belt and was doing some light free sparing with a huge, overzealous, and angry 12 year old orange belt. I made a huge mistake and didn't watch where I should have. He performed a side kick to the inside of my knee and I was out for 3 months...then just kinda went away after the club moved.

Dojang two: I am white belt here but they are going to let me test up a bit. I was VERY LIGHT contact sparring with very tall female and she performed an ax kick right to the top of my head. I was able to deflect some of it but I tell you what, it brought tears to my eyes. I shook it off for about 5 minutes and went on with a busting headache.

The worst ever for me was actually a pretty low key movement, no awesome kick, just someones hand accidentally going into my mouth...

his fingernail went flush with my tooth then upwards, shaving off a little roll of gum :)

Yeah. That really really really hurts. More than any lock or being KO punched etc...your eyes water uncontrollably and your mouth fills with blood instantly

fun times

Nothing serious for me. At worst, I caught a turning kick to the jaw and I heard a sound in my head like a rubber band being stretched too far. Now my jaw pops a lot.

Probably one of these two. Once while sparring with my teacher I saw a small , but picture perfect opening for a sidekick to his floating ribs. I took my shot.....and he dropped a very heavy elbow on the outside of my ankle before it could land. I couldn`t walk or even stand for 20 minutes.

The other one was self-inflicted. I threw an uppercut to a training partner`s ribs and he turned so I caught him on the tip of the elbow with the knuckle of my ring finger. Even with gloves on I was sure I`d broken the finger. It hurt for weeks.

I hate other peoples` elbows. I swear that some of my old teachers used to sit up late at night and sharpen them with a file.

Spinning back kicks around bladder height are never fun. Otherwise had a fairly clear run thus far.
