It is absolutely not fair....we will have to talk and see what happens...but so far I am remaining calm....and I have to say so far...her teacher is wonderful and quite helpful and appears to be as surprised as we are at this

I too am rather talented at this sort of thing...much why my wife goes with me to these types of meeting..... although there was one, once, were they got her angry....in the event that happens...my only advice is.....run.

by the way....she was a gold medalist runner in college so.....:EG:

Darn school... my youngest is advanced in Math, passes a test and is supposed to go to math of the next grade. However she is a year early from when they generally allow this so...... for her efforts in math and being advanced for her entire class they reward her with the ability to go to the next grades math.....which we are all happy about... including her.... but what else have they done....made it so she missed Music, Art, Gym and Library AND some of her regular class work....and they are entirely inflexible.... pretty much it appears since we made them work a little harder a year early because she is rather smart (more like her mother than her dad) they have decided to punish her by taking away classes she really enjoys....there response...that's the schedule...take or leave it..... make a choice.....this week.

That sucks. My daughter has had to make some difficult choices, but nothing as draconian as what you describe. Sucks.

I'm the good cop in my marriage. They may not think so when they talk to me, but god help them if my wife gets involved. She's a friggin' tiger when people mess with her kids.

Here is hoping you get that meeting and a satisfactory outcome!

One thing in our society we need to make it so that advanced students can get the advanced education/training that they need. Just like we need to help a student who needs more help. I think we are currently failing the advanced students in K-12. Both of my kid's are super bright and could easily have skipped a grade or two. Unfortunately that means they would be at a real disadvantage socially. Lots of tough choices for parents in the K-12 educational process. Fortunately we have a great College and University system that eventually helps to straighten things out. That is if you are in a position to afford it for your kid's. That is another issue and really a big issue now and for the future!

More and more options for kids, particularly once they get to high school. One of the challenges with my daughter is keeping her with her peer group but also challenging her academically. In addition to AP classes, they now offer some University of Washington classes in the school. best of both worlds. She gets to take actual UW classes as a UW student, along with AP classes and still gets to hang out with her friends and have a somewhat normal experience. It's not free, but it's very reasonable.

When my oldest kids were younger, we had to deal with frequent changes to the high cap. program because funding was so hit and miss. Never knew from year to year how many kids they'd have, whether they would have to cluster them all at one school or what.
