Reading this thread recently why is that most Americans seem to think the British are either incredibly well spoken or cockney?

Always baffled me as we have a very diverse range of dialects but still the majority of american films featuring american actors playing brits will only ever play it with a posh or a cockney accent.

Cor blimey guvnor! I nearly bleedin' fell down the apple and pears so I did whilst talking on me dog n' bone! :)

Can you fake a British accent?

:chuckles: I was innocently going to proclaim "No", then I realised you were talking to Ballen :D. Bear in mind there are a myriad accents in this tiny sceptred isle, often demarcated by distances of ten miles or so . Because I am from a country town about a dozen miles from the local city (Stoke-on-Trent) I got accused of being 'posh' on more than one occasion when I moved into Stoke ROFL.

Turn it around. How many American accents can you recognize?

Most X are only familiar with the details of the culture of Y from TV/Movies.

You missed a spot, Brian.
