Good for you. Our experience with volunteer things like this where it can be hard to get people to do the job at all is that they'll tolerate a fair amount of jerkishness rather than have to find someone new, sadly. Every complaint helps.

I can only speak from my own experiences, and life in general.
Long term meaningful relationships are a partnership agreement with a vested interest on both parts. When one partner stops contributing to the good of that relationship it becomes a "me" instead of an "us" situation. Love and trust can only grow from the "us" relationship.
