I think "not thinking" is probably closer to the truth. When one is stressed and/or under the influence of drugs, the attitudes one was indoctrinated with as a child often come out - whether one still believes them intellectually or not. The question is - were these statements the reversion of a person under stress reverting to childhood attitudes, or his actual opinion, carefully hidden until this time?

Those were my very same thoughts - and concerns.

His conduct is deplorable. I am thinking that those are kind words to use at the time.

After grave consideration - and a realization that they're not bloomin' idiots - ABC has cancelled Mel Gibson's Holocaust mini-series.

HOLOCAUST

i think his remarks about Jews was uncalled for, but as for drinking and driving everyone makes mistakes and everyone i know says stupid things when they are drunk

Good for them. I for one don't ever want to hear Mel Gibson's take on the Holocost.

He was selfish enough to denigrate the lives of many, many others when he turned the key to his ignition, and when he was caught his words struck pain in to the hearts of many.

My prayers for everyone that he has hurt by his despicable acts.

Yes, I'm still recovering (physically and financially) from after a hit-and-run drunk driver hit me from behind and into oncoming traffic - so I understand the rightful anger towards Mel for his drunk driving.

However; there is room for forgiveness and repentence and he's not written off in my book over this once incident - provided he makes amends and stops driving drunk.

I think the incredible critical (among certain circles) and financial success of "The Passion of the Christ" really damaged him as a person by setting him up as this "infallible" role model surrounded by people who would hang upon his every word and cater to his every whim. This, see the story of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley, for example, has a corossive effect upon the character.

Ironically when I first saw the post Mel Mel Mel I thought it was Mei Mei Mei which is Chinese for Gone Gone Gone which is possibly a good description of Mel’s career.

HOLOCAUST

Good for them! I am still wondering what possessed ABC to approve Gibson's Holocaust miniseries to begin with.

I liked Gibson as an actor, but I have to admit that my respect for him as a person just plummeted several notches. Yes, he may have made a "mistake" drinking under the influence, but he was pretty lucky that no one else got injured - or killed - by his stupidity.

Whether Gibson and his ilk acknowledge it or not, a LOT of people look up to them as "role models". Which makes behavior like DUI even more despicable.

a guy that's two shots away from a anti-semitic tirade has some deep rooted issues. his arrest was by a couple of deputies who weren't jewish nor could care less about the issue since they were just there to get the guy off the road. that mel decided to rant about the "jews" was oddly similar to the character steve on Deadwood-- who's tirades against blacks is always booze fueled and often uttered randomly, without sympathizers, and usually to his own detriment.

maybe mel could be hired by the show's producer to be steve's sidekick.

at this point, he may need the work.

Its amazing when someone who seems like they have it all, really blows it so badly and acts so poorly.
It will be interesting to see what impact it will have on his career. Nowadays, celebrities can do wrong, and then just write a book about it! very sad.

The cop that arrested him was a Jew.

On Saturday, entertainment website TMZ.com published what they claim is the initial police report filed after Gibson's arrest, which alleges the star launched a anti-Semitic attack on Mee, who is Jewish.

The comments were highly inappropriate and offensive no matter if the Deputy was Jewish or not. Everyone makes mistakes and falls short of who they should be, the biggest thing will be what he does with it and if he is truly sorry and attempts to really make ammends for it.
