The Social Security office on Maui has just closed. Thanks to you know who.

Swell.
What's the plan there? Will people not be able to ask/get questions answered about their social security? Will people be able to get their benefits? Will it only be done online (with a large portion of people that don't have a computer)?

SOCIAL SECURITY!!!!! Slowly I turned, step by step, inch by inch......

Actually I was dealing with them today and I got no where.... but I really didn't expect much to begin with

When I worked for the Education Department" I was uniform security, but let a teacher hear who I worked for.... I got hit with all sorts of complaints
SSA was understaffed before DOGE. They are reaching critical mass now.

I honestly don’t know. Can’t get any questions answered because there’s nobody at the Social Security office anymore. Fortunately (and I say that with a deep sadness and a burning hate in my heart) I’ll be going back to work at the airport in a month or two to feed my family. Strictly out of necessity. I do not want, and never expected, to go back to work for any reason.

So help me God, if I have to deal with a certain red cap wearing, problem manchild tourist with an attitude, things will get frisky.

I went to the store today for a loaf of bread. Expected to pay eleven bucks for it. (For a loaf of fricken bread) It was twelve ninety nine. Maybe the price will go down in the next six months. Sure, right after it starts raining C-notes and pussy.

I don’t mean to be crass, but I dedicated my life to help people, to serve and protect.
I don’t know if it was worth it anymore. That saddens me to my core.

If you are faced with two roads:

1. One completely unfamiliar, leading possibly to paradise or perhaps to nothing at all, and
2. the other one familiar, filled with landscapes and people you know, with a clear destination visible at the end.

Which one would you choose?

If it were me, I would probably choose the familiar road. After all, the unknown path is too risky. Since I can already obtain everything I want on the familiar road, why take the risk?

But I wonder what would happen if I chose the other road instead.

The road less traveled....:)

The Road not taken - Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference

The road less traveled....:)
Here is an example.

Road 1: You have worked for a compony for 9 and half years, If you work just 6 more months, you will earn your pension right. Even if you may quite your job 6 months later, you will still get your pension check during your retirement age.

Road 2: Someone just establishes a new company and offer you a CEO position with 75,000 shares of company stock (haven't got on the market yet). The job is to develop a "WYSIWYG desktop UI" (Bill Gate's new Window system hasn't been developed yet). You don't know you will have the ability to handle that new job. Also, if you are successful in the future, any knowledge that you may bring into that new company, your old company will sue you for the rest of your life. If you fail, nobody will even care.

Which road will you choose?

It’s going to impact people who are poor, very old, and/or disabled. I used to think cruelty was the point, but I don’t think the folks in power have any regard at all for anyone who isn’t enriching them, including the people who voted for them. Red states will be disproportionately, negatively impacted by their greed, though it will certainly make life harder for everyone.
I had some ups and downs but doing well....I just turned 82 on April 3rd......
Happy belated birthday.

This is an interesting poem. One of my favorites. It’s often interpreted as suggesting that he made the “right” choice, but it doesn’t really say that. I think the poem is melancholy. It doesn’t celebrate the decision. It’s more that he had to make a decision one way or the other. And in the end, he says with a sigh, that his decision made all the difference. As every important life decision does.

I interpret it as being about the finality of decision making, and living without regret. That’s just my take.

I'm aware of who it will negatively impact. I just don't understand what the logic is behind it - why the gov't is closing them and why people are supporting it. Is it really just to save .1% of the budget, or is there some benefit to not having them that I'm missing? And what alternatives are they offering for people having issues with their social security, to speak with someone?

This feels like another instance that's happened at least 3 times in the last 2 months, where they shut down offices, reopened them when they realized they were needed and begged workers to come back.
