Since I retired, I've been spending about 3 hours each morning cataloguing a few local cemeteries for genealogy. It's very pleasant. The cemetery grounds are quiet, and the work is very methodical, and there's an element of service to it. I've connected with a few of the on site staff, and after I'm done going through every plot, they've agreed to help me solve any mysteries I might uncover. A few stones are illegible, and in many cases, there are markers that have only a first initial and last name, with no dates. I live in a historically rural area that was quite poor, so often the families didn't have money to replace the temporary marker provided by the cemetery... these weren't made to last.
After 30 years working for the social security administration, I'm happy for a little while doing simple things that don't involve being threatened or yelled at by angry members of the general public.
