Sweet Christopher, I mean who gets addicted to valerian?
Anybody. It's been known to have serious withdrawal side effects, much like melatonin.

People use it for sleep, which is a very complicated subject, especially long term.

People started using a lot of these things OTC during COVID and since it's not really regulated, they started taking too much, disrupting sleep patterns

Valerian root has been know to cause intense nightmares.

I've achieved the alcoholic's holy grail, I've gone back to normal drinking. One or two beers, two or three times a week. Good times!
I'm not going to lecture you, other than to say that the alcoholic's holy Grail is 100% sober living, one day at a time.

I attended a meeting today, too. So I know.

No BS. There is no level of alcohol an alcoholic can consume. It will not end well.

Didn't you just post something about seeing a doctor about voices in your head? Do you know what delirium tremens is?

Try to get to avoiding that first drink. I'm sorry to be brutally honest but you seem like a worthy guy.

Yeah, you're right. 0 is the real achievment. The guys at DDAS are getting me started in that direction.

On a lighter note, the men who salivate over Dr.Alice Roberts all seem to have completely forgotten that Bettany Hughes is one of the sexiest women ever to have lived

I didn't mean to be insensitive. You'll get there. If you know today matters, tomorrow will come on its own.

And this time on 'ways to annoy your local record shop owner' ask for something very specific by swearin', bully or skating polly. The aim of this tactic is to assert dominance.

My daughter told me last night that my record collection was worth a lot of money... I had no idea
Discogs is an excellent site for getting a realistic idea of what your vinyl might sell for. Highly recommend taking some time to scan your collection. If you have a large enough collection, you might consider taking out a rider in your homeowners insurance.

You can also sell your records, if that’s something you want to do.

I had a pretty amazing collection of rare punk rock and reggae, which burned in a house fire when I was 21. I just saw the other day that a flyer for a black flag show that I had sold for $600.00. A flyer! It’s a good idea to have insurance, but some things can’t be replaced. I love checking out vinyl collections, we stayed at An air bnb in Portland that had a great collection and sound system in a old neighborhood craftsmen house, it really made a nice touch.

most records are worth between $10 and $20. If they’re limited pressings, maybe a little more. Most aren’t as valuable as you might hope.

But some are. Most valuable record I have is Midnight Vultures by Beck. Worth about $350 because it has never been repressed.

Regarding the air bnb there is no way in hell I’d let some random person play my vinyl. As you say, a lot of them aren’t replaceable. But that sounds like a cool experience.

Oh man, sorry for your loss. My sister plays in a reggae band, among other bands. 'S good stuff.

This is a tale of woe.

My elderly aunt gave me a record collection, the Glen Miller Band, Tommy Dorsey and his Orchestra and Frank Sinatra.

The record albums were pristine, not played even once. They were in hard bound albums, twenty big records in protective sleeves in each album. All the albums were in
a box made to hold such things in the 1930s.

They were all 78s.

In the early seventies I went in every place in Boston and Cambridge that sold records of to see if they wanted to buy them. They didn’t, said they were worthless.

A buddy and I opened a big dojo in 1982. It was an old pool hall where I had my misspent youth. We had to gut it then build it. We ran out of money, so we sold our vehicles.

We ran out of money again and held an auction. All of our friends donated stuff to auction off. We raised two grand to put us over the hump and get open.
I sold that record collection for forty bucks.

A guy I became friends in 2010 was a record collector. I asked him what it would be worth at that time. He wouldn’t tell me because he didn’t want me to cry. He did say “you could buy your cars back. Even if they were new.”

Ah, well.

I'm sure it's like comics, coins, baseball cards, and the rest. By and large, most aren't especially valuable. Especially things that are/were routinely made by the millions... but there's always that odd one that's mindboggling in value. And, often, to keep them valuable, you can't really enjoy the things... I'm sure I had some toys growing up that are probably valuable today, but I actually played with the things rather than putting them on a shelf in the unopened original package.

My dad was really good about letting me play his vinyl growing up, as long as I put it back afterwards. As a teenager, it was hard to stay angry with a man who had such an awesome record collection

Well I recently sold an original unworn sex pistols shirt that came from their San Francisco show. It had the button and the original unplayed God save the queen single with it. I got $600.00 from a guy in Leeds for just the shirt.

I had a bunch of rare punk records, limited pressings and colored vinyl from the 70s and 80s. I had first electric recordings of Muddy Waters, a super rare Van Morrison, Lots of early Blues stuff. Some of those were rather valuable within context. At this time it seems like my very extensive flyer collection was worth several thousand dollars at least but it’s the memories I would value more. I have been to more than 1500 concerts and most were punk rock or reggae from 1981- present but back in the day the way we found out was by flyers. I had multiple copies of some really good ones with original artwork. Black Flag and TSOL had some of the best ones. Oddly enough, The current iteration of Black Flag just played here on Tuesday. I did not attend.
