Is there a connection between the brand of Gi worn by participants and the style practiced?

Obviously, some style demands are connected to the Gi. Judo and BJJ require a stronger Gi than say Karate.

one of my grandsons does Tae Kwon Do, as well as pictures of other TKD students I have seen, seem to use pull over jackets.

I visited a local Dojo and they were all wearing Kwon Gis. Kobudo Karate.

Another Dojo had 13 students in attendance, 12 black belts. Eleven participants wore Shureido Gis. The one brown belt and one Black Belt had different brand Gis. Uechi ryu.

Just curious, There seem to be a hundred different brands. All claiming to be the greatest value for the dollar.

Thanks.

The Tokaido brand is from its founding strongly connected to Shotokan karate(JKA)
Shureido hail from Okinawa and so more in use by Okinawan styles of karate
And it was for Wado Ryu with it’s own ‘fist & dove’ label. I had one myself!

Shūkōkai used to favour dōgi with a black edge on the lapel, but I’ve not heard of Shūkōkai dojo in many years nor these types of dōgi.

Yes there are gis brands that lean towards a style. Even if they sell Gis in other styles.

And there are clubs and even sporting competitions that are now promoting one brand of clothing.

The UFC is the best example.
