As we are comparing Bruce Lee with God, this reflection appears...

I'm glad to see someone else who shares the same opinion. People get false impressions from his movies.

What false impressions does people get from "religious books" which are in principile similarly fictious as movies.

People says Bruce Lee didn't have any "real fights"?
Well doe we know for sure God or Jesus (replaced with equivalents of other religions) ever solved "real problems"? (I then mean, as opposed to in the "movies"

But the fiction still has a symbolic and perhaps guiding value, in life or in our MA journey. In that functional perspective, the "truth" about the presumed symbols, really does not matter as much.

It's like a holy grail, that is not supposed to ever be found, it's function is just to motivate the neverending search for it. So if the journey is more important than the goal, then the true nature of this holy grail possible doesn't matter.

It's like when you writethe symbol for inifty

this really just symbolises the "limite" of a sequence, it's the increasing sequence that is important - not the singularity! Ignoring this has caused alot of confusion in many fields, because people think the limit is "real", but it's not.

It cracks me up. In a thread about Bruce Lee, literally 50 years after his death, people feel so strongly about it that it’s generated over 100 posts and a lot of strong feelings. A testament to his lasting influence.

So, if he wasn’t a great martial artist, but he inspired a generation of kids and young adults to train, some (many?) of whom became excellent martial artists. Does it really matter how good he was? Is that even relevant to a discussion about his impact on martial arts at large?

I agree with him 50 years ago. I still agree with him today.

My $.02 - he was phenomenal, and way ahead of his time. I wish I practiced straight off The Tao of JKD when I started out as opposed to the traditional Karate I did all those years. Now I can make some of that traditional stuff work, but would have been way ahead of the curve with JKD.

I think you need to qualify that. By what are you measuring this?

Well that’s pure speculation since it sounds like you didn’t practise JKD.

I think the issue many have is that-

1) His art went untested and there are still no notable practitioners.
2) His art/philosophy was derivative at best.
3) From reading well referenced biographies, he was conceited, he was unfaithful to his wife so didn’t put his moral/philosophical ideas into practise (he was a hypocrit) and he was a terrible actor!
