5 months Kickboxing

Hi,

I did complete my 5 months Journey to Kickboxing. Started with 4 times a week and i do like it and doing now 4/5 times a week since last week.

Once a week technique/drills training and 3-4 times a week heavy bag training. Each sessions last 45-50 minutes. We train turn by turn with partner and in between we do push ups and other exercises and close with heavy bag again. So effective i am training 22-25 minutes

I am 40 years and 180cm and now 87kg. But when i started i was 83kg.

I noticed that i am not thicker and fit same jeans so more muscle mass. Although i barely see anything (i am always negative about results).

My question is will i get an flat belly eventually with this training regime and how long will it take?? I do eat very clean so rice/chicken/milk/yoghurt/nuts/fruit/vegetables

That sounds like some good cardio. I see they have you doing bag rounds. As far as how long it will take it depends. If you can find out your body fat percent that could help you. But yeah diet and cardio like you are doing is good. Maybe throw in some core exercises when you're not training, at home. They won't get rid of the belly but can tighten up the mid section a bit. If you are just doing this for fitness I think you are on a good path. If you have plans of fighting or competing I have to say bag work is good but I'd recommend more technique drilling and mitt work.

I want to become a fighter for self defense actually because since my childhood untill in my late 30s i have been beaten up and was too scared to throw a punch back.

The reason i am asking this that i eat very clean.
In those 5 months i did eat 5 times my favorite snacks pizza and patat (French fries) and for the rest only good food.

I was 83kg but gained 4kg and now 87. But i am not thicker and don:t have more fat. It seems it is muscle mass. Although u am very critical still it looks like my body is very little tight.

Also it seems after 5 months that i haven't progressed any and that it is very difficult and long road and i am not even 1 percent up.

The coach is good he had short professional carriere as Dutch Kickboxer

I think you're doing all the right things with what you said. It sounds like your diet is right and that's the most important part. I struggle myself with diet so I respect that you are doing good with that. Are you doing any strength training outside of the days you are doing technique and heavybag training? When you train hard you need fuel and food is fuel for our body. Sometimes we can accidentally eat too much even if it's healthy food I myself am guilty of this. Usually when someone is trying to lose body fat they start counting calories, like they will measure their body weight on an app like my fitness pal, and figure out how many calories they need a day and then figure out how many to cut back. You don't want to cut back a ton just a few small changes. Also I'd recommend some type of strength training to firm your body up, some people do weight lifting but that requires equipment, you could do something free at your house like push ups, sit ups and crunches, planks, squats, stuff like that. Planks are probably the best one with this issue and then crunches. But don't do so many that you can't continue your normal training. You want to do these extra exercises as a supplement to your normal training. There are more than one way to do this. But if you're dieting, doing your kickboxing training, and doing strength training on top of all that it's a matter of time before you get the results you want. Sometimes these things take time. I saw a youtuber who wanted it a six pack abs, it took him 2 years of dieting and exercise to get that six pack. I think you're going in the right direction.

I am indeed also doing some push ups and sit ups at home and few minutes a week stretching my legs and upper body to be more flexible

Yes, it is indeed a long journey.

How is your training regime and how often and long are you training?

How is your training regime and how often and long are you training?
I've been training off and on in the martial arts since I was 5 years old. I started taking things seriously when I was 19, I'm 33 now. I train 5 days a week, the times can be different depending on how my day was and how much energy I have. I try to religiously train all 5 days of the week that I train. Sometimes you'll see me workout for an hour or sometimes 45 minutes other days you might see me do a Tabata drill for 5 minutes or some footwork for 10 minutes. It all depends. The hardest I ever trained was in my late teens and early 20s I would train for a total of 4 hours a day split up into 3 sessions so 3 a days. It was brutal. I'm not able to train like that anymore. But I do what I can.
