This is the first film where Charlie Chaplin speaks and has dialogue.Remember, The Great Dictator came out in 1939, so as awkward as it seems, it was oddly prophetic and comical. At the time, people thought the scene depicting the destruction of a Jewish ghetto was over the top for a comedy, but now we know better, don't we?
