To my astonishment..

The question is, how many people actually notice what's going on on the screen? Does it really distract them?

In the spirit of Scientific Inquiry(tm) I suggest an experiment. Some time during class slip a disc of Ultimate Surrender or Champions [*] into the DVD player. See if anyone notices. Run away. Hide under the bed.

[*] Note, both are very NSFW unless your job is a lot more exciting than mine.

Agreed. The only use for a TV is to show videos as a teaching aide. You might be trying to teach a certain technique and you just happen to have a great video of Joe Fastfoot using that technique to clock his opponent. Pop it in, let them see the practical application of it....then TURN IT OFF!

Why even need a video when you can just use your yondan in class for a real life demonstration?

Thats what my sensei does.

I'm fine with the tv but NEVER during training, music ok while warming up or sparring but again never while teaching.

hmmmm...... I wonder if the cost of classes will increase after that little renovation.
