I may have missed something and I apologize if I did. But was the kid not interested in TKD or was it the duckwalk he didn't like? I mean, people join martial art clubs to learn martial arts. Duckwalking? I would have been diaspointed and walked away as well. I know physical fitness is a good thing but join a gym if thats what you want. If you're paying a hundred plus $ a month to learn to fight, teach the kid to fight.
I've taken martial arts in three different places (TKD as a kid, wrestling as a kid, and TKD now) and we've always done at least a little bit of non-martial-arts-related exercise to condition our cardio and tone our muscles. If you want to be competent at TKD you have to stretch to get the high kicks. You have to work on your balance. You have to condition yourself for sparring. There's more to a martial art than just how to punch and kick.
