Hospital sandwich... blech. but it's food. I'll get something better on the way home in the morning.

Tomorrow will be good. TKD in the evening, and after the classes there's two ladies getting their 1st Dans awarded. Going to be some other awards too but not sure what. Some of the BB's have been asked to do demos. I'm doing power breaking.

Showed a friend of mine who's into Muay Thai a sidekick with the front leg off the kick check. I forget not everyone can throw 2-3 kicks/techniques without putting the foot down since its such a big tkd thing.

Use to spar a good friend who was training Chángquán but he was also a teaching Black Belt in TKD. Since I was a Taiji, Xingyi, guy with a bit of Bagua I liked to get in close thinking it was safer. However the TKD side of him faked me out on more than one occasion. He would throw a front kick, that he was pretty certain I would avoid, then I would move in…that Damn TKD ability would hook that kick back at me and he would stop his heel about an inch form the side of my head as I moved in.

I would always thank him for not kicking me in the head with his heel...and then I would hit him with Kao, shoulder strike, and we would be back at it again...or we would break into our Kung Fu theater, slow motion routines with associated English that did not match what our mouth was saying…and he was from Beijing....we always ended those with the Chuck Norris signature spinning back kick...and I always lost to the power of the Chuck Norris spinning back kick....in slow motion

Actually, while it's certainly possible, we don't encourage it since there's no power generated from it. Looks cool but pretty ineffective for causing damage.

Generating power properly it's about as powerful as a teep, you have to twist the planted foot to generate any power. It's enough to stop someone advancing on you but no, it's not a big power kick.

I think the problem with the second (third...) kick is that people don't really chamber. We've got a kid at our school who likes to do this, and I pretty much ignore his second kick. He may touch me, but it sure isn't going to hurt.

On the other hand, go watch some Bill Wallace footage. He'll show that it IS possible to deliver the second (third...) kick with significant power.

Good class tonight. Promoted a woman and her daughter to 1st Dan, several of our black belts were given citations from the WTF for "dedicated service and outstanding contributions", and our Chief Instructor was promoted to 4th Dan by our Kwanjangnim.
That last was WAY overdue. He's been declining to promote for years, but I don't think he was given much choice this time.

post pictures of the home gym instead!
