Sparring with advanced?

Hi, so i am training exactly 7 months today.
I am going consistent 4 days a week.
4-5 sessions on those 4 days.
Since 3 October 1 Dutch kickboxing techniqal drill.

Sparring was very less, maybe 15 minutes a month.. And i don't if it is my progress or it is because i like it. In my mind came without sparring there is nothing like real live fight experience.

I asked my assistent coach about brother i want to spar more but is there any possibility because.

He said that they do sparring on Thursday and Friday, but is for advanced fighters who compete also, but i am welcome.

I know i should say to them that i am newbee and they will slow their pace... But is it an good idea to start with?

What kind of school? A hybrid?

If it's Dutch, with competitors, you might enjoy sparring for less than 15 minutes.

If you can last longer, good for you. Your coach might be offering you a chance to see if you can handle it. But I'll tell you right now, Dutch kickboxing is up there with Savate, Muay Thai etc.

U want to say that it will be too tough for me?
What should i do? I want to overcome the fear of getting hurt and without sparring i will never learn a little fighting. This is my aim. They are Dutch Kickboxing style people who are training to compete and had few fightings also. It is a class advanced Kickboxer sparring class.

Any advice? I want to overcome the fear of fighting. Not that i want to fight but every1 wants to overcome something in their life

Fighting , competition,,, both have different types of fear / anxiety.

One is surviving the encounter, the other winning the encounter.
They are not the same..

Fear is healthy, the bodies way of prepping for danger


Seems like you have a good coach šŸ‘
one that is looking out for you..

If you do not have the skill set to handle the advanced class, those in the advance class will either

1. Take it easy on you, understanding you do not have the skill sets developed yet,

A. negative impact on their training time...
B. positivity impact on your training, not getting injured in the process.

2, Train as normal, they expecting you to have the skill sets to deal with what you asked for.

A. negative impact on their training time, as you do not have developed skill sets to handle it..
B. negative impact on your training , the chance of getting injured in the process high.

Be very clear about your expectations and skill level with any opponent. Try to have a technique or concept as a focus for the session, work on something. CTE and head trauma is real, you can receive permanent ( and initially unnoticeable ) brain damage from even light contact sparring, donā€™t waste them on sparring without purpose. Use good protective gear and listen to your body rather than your ego. BREATHE! Try to have some fun with it. Best Wishes!

Let's see... I will look all into it and take it into consideration. Good point of maybe i will waist there time because those classes are not mentioned in the gym rooster.

And i will use head gears and will be clear and ask them to use 50% of their.power and no head shots.

I will come back after some time to update.

The thing is i want to overcome the fear of being hurt. I do not want to fight or compete or be an good fighter. Avoid everything att all cost but if i have to then i don't want to be a pussy that what i am because of childhood experiences

Make sure the school is the sort of school that will go a bit easy on you when you start.

And then don't be the sort of person everyone wants to bash.

Don't try to power your way out of a sparring session you are loosing.

Brother i am 40... Too old i think to become a general??
We all want to develop some "door guarding" skills through our life. The goal should be trying to develop at least 1 MA skill that we can do better than everybody on this planet.

You might try by understanding what is it that you're really looking for...

You have mentioned "overcome the fear"
What will overcoming the fear allow you to do now,
that you are not doing already ?

Many start training, because of an experience, the point of their training.
Projecting a past into the future, affecting the present.

Why not train to be present ?

You can always pass that fear to your opponent. One of my favorite jokes is:

A: Do you teach self-defense?
B: I don't teach self-defense. I teach my students how to make their opponents to defend themselves.

To be a MA person, you need to have this kind of attitude.


If you know how to use your "long guard" to interrupt your opponent's punches farther away from your body, you will not be afraid of punches that coming toward you. It's just like the anti-missile system that shot down all incoming missiles.

I think finding a sparring place is a good thing. And even sparring hard outside your comfort zone should fix that fight issue you say you have.

But when you step out of your comfort zone there is risk.

Fear is normal. Everyone feels fear. Focus on fundamentals first within the frame work of sparring. Breathe in, and then out, and then In and out. Repeat as needed.
