Showing honor and repect

Thanks for your reply and your responses this clears things up for me, I apologize if I gave offense.

Mark,
No offense was taken at all. I really do want to see the school thrive and do well. I am planning on maybe buying my friend lunch and giving him a few ideas to help improve the learning enviornment. If he acts on them then great. If not, then I guess I will have to stick it out for a while until I can test for my 3rd dan and open a small school through a nearby church. I hate that option as it would hurt his business.

I thank you for your insight and everyone here as well. I'll keep you posted as time goes on. Hopefully it will turn out well.

Any way you could bring him in on it if it does go that way? It might be to your mutual benefit if you could work something out... there's always a way... :)

TKDMel,
That is an idea. It's possible to do it that way by setting your school up as a "sister" school, but taught the way you like it. With this possibility, this will enable you both to perhaps combine testing days together and share some seminars/activities.

Ceicei---good points! And in this day and age, cooperation between potential competitors might make a lot more sense than trying to go it alone. Gives both parties a bit more versatility because they can in effect count on each other for backup. This is a noticeable trend in the airline industry, for example.

Small businesses don't have the advantage of huge economies of scale and deep pockets to get through tough times. Very few school owners, so far as can tell, are making piles of money in the MA business (a lot of them are mostly in it for the love of the art, but still, ya gotta eat, eh?) These kinds of local alliances are probably a good deal for all concerned.
