Thanks for the thread Jenna. Iteresting.
Here's on that makes me kick myself and keep going:

...

Get over it
Get over it
It's gotta stop sometime, so why don't you quit
Get over it, get over it

Ooh thank you for posting this. I know where you are coming from my friend. Here is one in similar vein... CSI Miami ah, or The Who :)
And I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again

Ah, Sabbath, such a happy-go-lucky little group.....

Okay, happy? Right. Uh, let's see now.... er..... don't worry, I can think of one, honest I can! Um.......

Okay, this is for Cryo as much as anyone else..... I really can't pick an absolute favourite, so here's the entire thing! This is what happens when Joss Whedon gets bored during a writers strike...... Enjoy! (Small warning on some slightly adult concepts... but it's all in the name of humour!)

Since you brought The Who into this it reminded me of one of my fave lyrics of all time. Simple yet is says so much.

"I'd gladly lose me to find you
I'd gladly give up all I had
To find you I'd suffer anything and be glad

I'd pay any price just to get you
I'd work all my life and I will
To win you I'd stand naked, stoned and stabbed

I'd call that a bargain
The best I ever had
The best I ever had

I'd gladly lose me to find you
I'd gladly give up all I got
To catch you I'm gonna run and never stop

I'd pay any price just to win you
Surrender my good life for bad
To find you I'm gonna drown an unsung man

I'd call that a bargain
The best I ever had
The best I ever had

I sit looking 'round
I look at my face in the the mirror
I know I'm worth nothing without you
In life one and one don't make two
One and one make one
And I'm looking for that free ride to me
I'm looking for you

I'd gladly lose me to find you
I'd gladly give up all I got
To catch you I'm gonna run and never stop

I'd pay any price just to win you
Surrender my good life for bad
To find you I'm gonna drown an unsung man

I'd call that a bargain
The best I ever had
The best I ever had"

Yes I confess it was I who brought The Who into it, and it will not be the last time neither :) Thank you that is indeed a very poignant and personal lyric and you know it was not a love song as such and but was written to Baba at the time. Anyway... this song holds some of my favourite lyrics

'Fools,' said I, 'You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you,'
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed
In the wells of silence

As I load my pistol
Of fine German steel
I never thought I'd be so down and out
Having my last meal
But I know I can do it
It just took a few years
As I execute my killers
The morning is near

Walk out, girl don't you walk out,
We've got things to say.
Talk out, let's have it talked out,
And things will be okay.
Girl, I don't want to fight.
I'm a little bit wrong, you're a little bit right.
I said girl, you know that it's true,
It's a little bit me, and it's a little bit you,
Too.
Don't know just what I said wrong,
But girl, I apologize.
Don't go, here's where you belong
So wipe the tears from your eyes.
Girl, I don't want to fight.
I'm a little bit wrong, you're a little bit right.
It's a little bit me, and it's a little bit you,
Too.

Met a girl, thought she was grand
fell in love, found out first hand
went well for a week or two
then it all came unglued

In a trap, trip I can't grip
never thought I'd be the one who'd slip
then I started to realize
I was living one big lie

She f***ng hates me
trust
she ********** hates me
la la la love
I tried too hard
and she tore my feelings like I had none
and ripped them away

She was queen for about an hour
after that s**t got sour
she took all I ever had
no sign of guilt
no feeling of bad, no

In a trap, trip I can't grip
never thought I'd be the one who'd slip
then I started to realize
I was living one big lie

[Chorus]

that's my story, as you see
learned my lesson and so did she
now it's over and I'm glad
'cause I'm a fool for all I've said

[Chorus]

la la la la la la la la la love
Trust
la la la la la la la la la love
Trust
and she tore my feelings like I had none
she fu***cking hates me

Because someone was saying that she wasn't getting any more offerings of songs.... and because I was told I should be listening to something a little more, uh, contemporary, here's a pretty little ditty that I quite enjoy...

Jump Into The Fog - The Wombats

What a great achievement it was
To get a hotel room this late
I bet they charge by the hour here
The kind of place where you should bring your own UV ray

It's not a big problem with me, love
You don't look that hygienic anyway
I'm only here because
I want to twist the structure of my average day

We feel nothing so jump into the fog
You know that we hit the ground upright
We feel nothing so jump into the fog
I just hope it's your bones that shatter not mine
We feel nothing so jump into the fog
You know that we hit the ground upright
We feel nothing so jump into the fog

What a great achievement it was
To find someone who shirks such little self-restraint
I'm a non-believer but
I believe in these dirty little wicked games

Snakes and ladders abandoned here love
The climb's too rough to slide back down again
I'm only here because
I feel the day deserves a truly sordid end

We feel nothing so jump into the fog
You know that we hit the ground upright
We feel nothing so jump into the fog
I just hope it's your brains that splatter not mine
We feel nothing so jump into the fog
You know that we hit the ground upright
We feel nothing so jump into the fog

I've made some bad decisions, I'll admit that freely
It's just that life tastes sweeter when it's wrapped in debauchery
So drop your map, drop your plans, drop that five-step program
Because there's not an ounce of faith in this leap

It's clear you feel nothing so jump into the fog with me

Jump in
Jump in
Jump in

Jump into the fog!
Jump into the fog!
Jump into the fog!
Jump into the fog!

Tell me why the grass was greener,
Years ago, I swear, it used to grow here,
But no more here.

Tell me why on this hill,
All the birds they used to come to fly here,
Come to die here.

Tell me why I need to know,
Sometimes I wish I didn't have to know
All you've shown me.

Hey world, what you say,
Should I stick around for another day or two?
Don't give up on me, I won't give up on you.
Just believe in me like I believe in you.

Tell me why, on the corner,
All the kids that used to come to run here,
Load their guns here.

And tell me why it's okay to kill in the name of the Gods we pray,
Tell me who said it's okay to die in the name of the lies we say,
Tell me why there's child soldiers,
Tell me why they close the borders,
Tell me how to fight disease, and
Tell me now, won't you please

The only thing I want to do
Is to be in the arms of someone who
Believes in me, like I believe in you

And I sayThey talk of the future like it's already the past
They Talk about the future like today will never last
Thay talk of the future while their diggin' through your trash
Taxman come to remove your cash
They talk of the future like a criminal plans
Corporate robberies in far off lands
They tell you the future's a big wonderland
And that homeland security's got a career for you
Don't you believe what they told you before
It's the same frikin' lies that they'll tell you some more
They searchin' your bag as you're boarding the plane
And they telling your neighbors that you went insane
I wouldn't believe that this was all coming true
If I could not see with my eyes that it's true
Even still I hope the future gets here soon
Bring it on bring it on

The future's comin' on like a bomb
The whole worlds rockin' and the beat goes on [x2]
Ready or not we're bringing it on
The whole world's rockin' and the beat goes on

They take all your privacy give it away
And for musical piracy lock you away
They tell you that war is a permanent thing
And American Idol kids really can sing
Potheads on a rescue mission,
Put your cancer in remission
People starving, malnutrition
Work your abs into condition

Oh no now they after your soul
And they're telling you now that you're losing control
Well it's true cause I just got sick of it all
They say the savior's comin he's down at the mall
He's signing some autographs and selling them all
Pick up the phone now and make the call
I wouldn't believe that this is all coming true
If I could not see with my eyes that it's true
Even still I hope the future gets here soon
Bring it on bring it on

The future's comin' on like a bomb
The whole worlds rockin' and the beat goes on [x2]
Ready or not we're bringing it on
The whole world's rockin' and the beat goes on

Stay for Tomorrow
Stay For Tomorrow
They talk of the future like today will never last
They talk of the future like it's already the past
They talk of the future while their diggin' through your trash
Taxman come to remove your cash

The future's comin' on like a bomb
The whole worlds rockin' and the beat goes on
Ready or not we're bringing it on
The whole world's rockin' and the beat goes on [x2]

Stay for tomorrow
Stay for tomorrow
Hey world what you say,
Should I stick for around for another day
Hey world what you say,
Should I stick for around for another day
Hey world what you say,
Should I stick for around for another day or two?

Don't give up on me, I won't give up
And I try, try, try, try,
I try, try, try, try,
On you
Don't give up on me
And I cry, cry, cry, cry,
I cry, cry, cry, cry,
You
Just believe in me like I believe

Hey world, what you say
Hey world, what you say
Hey world, what you say
Should I stick around for another day
Hey world, what you say
Should I stick around for another day or two?

Don't give up on me, I won't give up on you
Just believe in me like I believe in you

Don't give up on me

Hey world, what you say
Hey world, what you say
Hey world, what you say
Hey world, what you say?

What happened to my lovely thread that had once soulful richness of meaning and but is now just a superficial collection of videos and random lyric devoid of reasons? Pffft..

Oh well. Here is this. Why? Because it is one of my most favourite videos ever. And it should be yours too.

Nothing superficial about what I posted...it is how I felt this morning and a song I heard on the radio.... now I have to buy the CD...ok the buying the CD bit is a bit superficial

Goodness no I am not directing this at you XS, only I miss knowing why people choose what they choose. Ah I am getting old and yearning for the old days when I started the thread ha. No I am sorry. No offence intended I promise absolutely. I like to share music and know why people like what they like. Your choice of song, has a meaningful lyric. I read it. Though without background as to why it is meaningful to you at a particular time, it is just words yes? With context those words not only become poignant, they provide a conduit to connect :) Yes. I know. I am a sad puppy.

That right there hit me... I work for the government and I now feel I have worked for it for too long and I no longer want to work for it, I see the lies, I see the do as I say not as I do stuff, we're in contract negotiations, government workers have been vilified by those that actually caused the problem, everyone is talking about how great the future will be (yet nothing has really changed), sadly I see what is going on, I don't like it, this is all very hard for me to believe even though I see it, there is not thing one I can do unless I am willing to risk a possible $70,000 fine, and that is about it.

I understand what this means and thank you so much for sharing. I would share you back a song that your situation put into my mind... 101 interpretations and 101 cover versions, I like this best :)

This one is about where I'm with my employer and thier employer and even with the Unions I am supposed to support... and it is frustrating.

One of the FF's most potent songs I would totally agree XS. Thank you for sharing that. As to your situation, far be it from me to know pertinence from not, though this is one of my favourite songs from long time ago, if nothing else than for the sad, though validating refrain:

You see, my life, it's a series of compromises anyway. It's a sham; and I'm conditioned to accept it all.

I like the song, thank you, but I would not say that my life was a series of compromises; I am here because I put myself here by not paying attention. But I do see that many out there, at least in my little corner ofthe USA, have all been conditioned to accept it. A recent unsolicited friendship ending political discussion which was forced upon me proved that to me yesterday.

But it is the weekend, I’m not at work, I’m watching my youngest color and I am in a better mood and this song seems pertinent today, especially this bit, same artist as the first one.

Don't let nobody ever tell you that it couldn't be done
Don't let nobody ever tell you that we couldn't be one
Don't let nobody ever tell you that it shouldn't be sung
Don't let nobody ever tell you you're the only one

Forgive the add before the song

Hey Hey Hey - Michael Franti & Spearhead

It's been a long time coming that I had to say
When I wake up in the morning all I do is pray
For some guidance and protection on the streets today
And an answer to the questions I ask everyday

So tell me why do the birds that used to fly here
Tell me why do they come to die here?
And all the kids that used to run here
Tell me why do they load their guns here?

I remember in the days when
We were one heart, no need to defend
I just wrap my arms around you
Don't give up, this song is for you

Hey, hey, hey
No matter how life is today
There's just one thing that I got to say
I won't let another moment slip away

I say hey, hey, hey
No matter how life is today
There's just one thing that I got to say
I won't let another moment slip away

I hold on, I'm trying to hold on
I hold on, hold on, hold on

From the tops of the buildings to the streets below
Between the Wall Street banks and the empty homes
Between the lines of the people standing all in a row
There's a crack in the gutter where a flower grows

Reminding me that everything is possible
Yeah, reminding me that nothing is impossible
You gotta live for the one that you love you know
You gotta love for the life that you live you know

Singing hey, hey, hey
No matter how life is today
There's just one thing that I got to say
I won't let another moment slip away

I'll sing hey, hey, hey
No matter how life is today
There's just one thing that I got to say
I won't let another moment slip away

I hold on, I'm trying to hold on
I hold on, I'm trying to hold on

Until the morning comes again
I will remain with you my friend
And we will ride until the sun
Goes to the place where it begun
And we will live to laugh and cry another day

Don't let nobody ever tell you that it couldn't be done
Don't let nobody ever tell you that we couldn't be one
Don't let nobody ever tell you that it shouldn't be sung
Don't let nobody ever tell you you're the only one

Singing hey, hey, hey
No matter how life is today
There's just one thing that I got to say
I won't let another moment slip away

I say hey, hey, hey
No matter how life is today
There's just one thing that I got to say
I won't let another moment slip away

Whoa, oh, oh, oh, I hold on
Whoa, oh, oh, oh
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, I hold on
Whoa, oh, oh, oh

I'm just trying to hold on
Trying to hold on
Trying to hold on

I say hey, hey, hey
No matter how life is today
There's just one thing that I got to say
I won't let another moment slip away

I say hey, hey, hey
No matter how life is today
There's just one thing that I got to say
I won't let another moment slip away

I hold on, I'm trying to hold on
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on

Well I am glad you have gained a perspective. I think gaining a perspective is harder than losing it. Children are very adept bringers of perspective that is certain. I am glad for you having a happy day today and for sharing it here :) Oh and I like guys that walk up the street with their guitar singing melodic uplifting philosophies. I will try that myself one day, though I suspect they will round me up and drag me off somewhere ha.

Well in the same vein as your track, here is mine to you :) Have a better weekend.

For the children, then....

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogroves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his Vorpal Sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood a while in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whifling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The Vorpal Blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with it's head
He went galumphing back.

"And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms my beamish boy!
Oh frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe.
All mimsy were the borogroves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Make of it what you will... one famous take on it was that: "It seems very pretty... but it's rather hard to understand! Somehow it seems to fill my head with ideas - only I don't exactly know what they are!"

Ah, and one final word - and I say this three times that I may be believed - the Snark was a Boojum, you see....
