scrolls question

I have been looking at Karate wall hanging scrolls and noticed that some of them have small red squares on them. What are they and what to they do/say?

Hard to see, basically lower left on both. Thanks.

Most likely it's the seal/stamp of the author. Much like a signature on a document. Was/is common in Japan and also, I think, Korea and maybe China. One's karate or judo rank certificate may have one if the instructor is Oriental. Red seems to be the most common color, but I've seen black as well.

It's a hanko, or chop.. It's a stamped signature.

No, it the transliteration of my name in to Japanese characters.

Did you create it?

No, I had it made for me by a hanko artisan in Kyoto.

Yes, it’s carved from buffalo horn.

The stamp is the black object and on the right is a little ink paste receptacle….
