scrolls question

So wouldn't it be relatively simple to carve one out of wood or a similar substance and commit fraud?
As far as I recall, the one's I've seen were also accompanied by a written signature. And it would be some work to accurately replicate the stamp just for one individual victim. Might as well just forge a signature. There seem to be many easier ways to commit fraud these days via computer.

here, in the United States, our paper currency is printed on special with special and intricate design. And yet people can counterfeit it that is hard for the average person to distinguish from real money.

I have not seen actual Japanese stamps but it appears they are similar to what I get stamped with to show I paid to get into an event.

You are painting other nations with the filth-laden brush of the USA. The Japanese would never be so dishonest. There is no crime amongst the Japanese let alone the sort of organised crime that would be required for forgery. 😐

Are these stamps issue by the Government like a driver's license here?
No, but hanko that are going to be used as personal signatures are registered with the government. There have been several attempts to phase out the use of hanko by the government, but they haven’t been successful, with people preferring the traditional use of a hanko, after all fax machines are still widely used in Japan (although there are security reasons for this).

The Yakuza, like the mafia/cosa nostra, are very misunderstood. Yes, they’re a bit uncouth, rough and tumble but whenever there’s a disaster in Japan, the yakuza are amongst the first on the scene handing out water, hard drugs and recruiting women as potential prostitutes (a secure job) 😑
you compare them favorable to the Mafia/Cosa Nostra. But, don't consider them criminal?

"the yakuza are ... handing (selling) hard drugs and recruiting women as potential prostitutes" but are only misunderstood. Sounds like what I heard when I was an enforcement attorney for the Government. Criminals are not bad people they are just poor misunderstood souls who are victims of their environment and a Fascist Government and society.

You must be a bleeding heart Liberal.

Please accept my apologies if I have offended anyone. Just my opinion. Opinions are like noses, everybody has one. Some are just better looking than others. LOL.

I wonder if you’re allowed to vote in elections? You very gullible. 😉

Here in the United States there are generally 4 requirements to vote:
1. old enough
2. citizen
3. breathing (some places dead people have been known to vote.)
4. other (convicted felon some places, not unconscious, etc.)

There are no requirements as to education, experience, intelligence, common sense, etc.
Example 1: Tommy Tuberville was elected to the US Senate one of 100 elected senators for the country. Upon election he said he was proud to serve in one of the three branches of government Executive, Senate and House of Representatives. (actually the Senate and House are one branch-legislative. the third branch is Judicial. You would think someone elected to that position would know better. My guess is the people who voted for him didn't know either.)

Example 2: One of the current candidates for President said General Washington won the revolutionary war (April 19, 1775September 3, 1783) by attacking and keeping the airports so the British could not receive supplies! Mick Jagger mentioned this in one of his concerts (I am not making this up-google it for yourself).

Example 3: According to current polls on the election next week approximately half the voters are supporting the above candidate. Personally, I don't know which is worse that he is the candidate or that people actually vote for him.

Satire and irony only work it the person it is directed at realizes it is satire or irony. A very well known politician here seems to think the web site The Onion is factual;

But, your point is well taken.

I’m only pulling your leg! Sorry if I made you feel irritated by it. 🙏🏽

I wonder if that’s the problem? I had this great idea that everyone above 18 who wishes to vote should take a very simple little multiple choice question test to see if they know what the parties stand for. For example, what are each party’s broad ideas on taxation? How has party B said they’ll deal with illegal immigration? What are party C going to do about anthropomorphic climate change?

This would show they had some idea on what the political candidates stood for, maybe even making them read the manifestos. If they didn’t pass, no vote. They haven’t earned it. Then I discovered Socrates had the same idea 2000 years ago!

That’s not true. One recognises satire by the juxtaposition of ideas of from redaction ad absurdum for example, and recognising this because they are possibly only slightly versed in the field. The recognition of satire does require a bit of intelligence and education.

I can guess which of your political parties they are from 🙄

People here have to prove their competence to drive, practice medicine, repair cars, electrician and a zillion other things. To protect public from injury by incompetents.

But we let whatever tom, dick, harry and betty vote just because they were born here. Originally voting was limited to male land owners (Aristocracy?).

But that was unfair. I don't what the voting in 1930's Germany voting Nazi's into power. Other evil dictators came to power by the will of the majority (at least of those who voted---Approximately 240 million people were eligible to vote in the 2020 presidential election and roughly 66.1% of them submitted ballots, totaling 158,427,986 votes. Roughly 81 million eligible voters did not cast a ballot.)
So if there are two candidates it only takes 34% of eligible voters to elect president. Of course there are people who aren't eligible for some reason.

IN 1992 US population was 255,000,000. Roughly 196,000,000 were adults. Bill Clinton won with 45,000,000 votes. He won with approximately slightly less than 1/4 of the adults voting for him.

I know “Lies, damned lies, and statistics.”

I think I need to let this go. I am gullible. All in good faith. Thanks.

Okay, you got me again. But I figured it out. You are British with a dry sarcastic humor style. I am American, more of a 3 stooges/Abbot & Costello fan. Got me....
