This woman in China is an MMA athlete. According to the story, she was attacked by a person wielding a knife. Instead of attacking and subduing the man, she reported him to the police. He was arrested and faces charges. She is facing online criticism for not using her training to subdue the attacker.

Based on what I read, I am of the opinion that she did well. Being skilled does not render one impervious to knife wounds. Getting away, making a report, and being a good witness for prosecution seem like a much wiser self-defense strategy to me.

If one cannot get away from the attacker, then it becomes a different situation. But as long as one can retreat safely, one should do so (my opinion).
