Unfortunately, in my universe, your instructor is wrong if you want a consistent effect generated by improving skill supported by knowledge. Cute saying though.

Evolve and modify for your own practice and growth, however, teach as the originator intended thereby giving your students the option to grow as they choose and not as you choose. this to me is the concept of a base technique or the concept of a 'form'.
