MMA is the most traditional martial art

Traditionally, most combat arts codified into martial arts were weapons based or taught weapons usage
with the methods themselves not public....nor shared with outsiders....
considered as part of the combat technology of their time.

some thoughts 🤔

Nobody can win that gauntlet scenario.

And hip tosses taught to soldiers are a cop out.

told my tkd 5th Dan mate that my son was doing MMA, was told that’s not a proper martial art. Always hearing this from traditional martial artist. Tkd is from the 50s so can judo say they are not traditional cause judos from the 1880s, MMA was in the Olympic Games 3000 years ago but for some reason they oldest martial art in the world gets constantly looked down on by arts that are babies by comparison. Really don’t know why
MMA is not a Martial Art at all. MMA is Training to fight, it is all about fighting, strength against strength, skill against skill, with weight classes and tap out submissions. Martial Arts are about NOT-fighting , the greatest victories are those won without confrontation, there are no weight classes, fighting strength against strength is a bad strategy, slugging it out is a bad strategy , long drawn out fights are demoralizing even for the victor, there is no way to escape the consequence of defeat (no tap) , the Sport of MMA has nothing in common with a true Martial Art.

What does not-fighting training look like to you?

Oops wrong link. Sorry. But that whole hunting rogue waves in the ocean thing is pretty cool too.

Escaping the consequences of defeat, starring Val Kilmer.

Even kids judo and Tod have weight classes and timed rounds, I would argue that with very few exceptions every one starts TMZ to learn how to fight, be that self defence or competition
