I've noticed that jobs never seem to be interested in giving me a raise until I quit. Then all of a sudden they're all for it. Still not sure if I'll accept.

I have been there a couple of times. The first time I was young and was unsure about the new job anyway, so I stayed. It worked well.
The second time I could not leave fast enough and never looked back.

just a few more days and I will be retired. It will have been 32 years, 9 months, and 15 days of public service, including my 4 years of military service. It has been a good run, “but the times, they are a’changin’.”

Congratulations. It is not often you see a person work their whole life at one place anymore. Usually, it is in a public service, government position.

I was a bit of a journeyman in my early years while working my way through college. Then had a 5-year unplanned stint as a LEO. But I knew I wanted to be an EE since I was about 15-years old. This also took me working for two industries before solidifying my path. All of it was similar work, but in different environments which expanding my thinking on being an electrical engineer. That was 27-years ago last December.

We have a 4th generation cattle operation, and I still work with 10 of my long-time engineering clients so, I will (hopefully) work until the day I die. My body balks at the notion oftentimes but I am very thankful for my lifestyle.

Congratulations...if I had not left the state for 2.5 years I would have 32 right now too. But in May I will have 30. However it looks like my retirement will be sometime between May 2026 and April 2027.

But here's the thing.... you are working now, and because of that, I think you're ok...but as soon as you retire....I am required to not like you at all....mostly out of jealousy and envy...but it is what it is.... however once I retire, all will be forgiven, and you will be OK again..... Just following the rules you know
