I've never been in a sensory chamber. But I've turned off my lights in a cave, while neutrally buoyant. I imagine it's much the same. Didn't do anything for me, one way or the other.

I am not claustrophobic, but I don't think I could handle the dark and the sensory deprivation.
Ah yeah fair enough. You basically have the room and tank to yourself so some people actually leave the tank a little bit open or leave the optional light on inside the tank, but yep understandable

Another glorious day of failure ahead trying to make REAL old tech work with REAL new tech

Good luck, man. The closest I've come to that in the last decade is having to make RS-232 connections via USB, with outdated software (which wouldn't run on 64-bit Windows).

I've been afraid of the dark since childhood and I have an overactive imagination. Put me in sensory deprivation, and I'll probably hit the hallucination stage much faster than most people. :)

Have you been diving lately?

Not really. But we're going to Cancun in June. Cancun is, in my opinion, the best place for new divers, and we're going to be introducing a friend to the sea on this trip. I'm planning to abandon the group and spend one day in the caves down at Tulum, though.

I first became aware of sensory deprivation in the Pilot episode of Hawaii Five-0 in 1968. Wo Fat put Steve McGarrett in one. (Damn that Wo Fat!) I was completely fascinated and always wanted to go into one, wanted to feel blind nothingness with absolutely no stimulus of any kind coming in. Never did it. Years later went into Federal Law Enforcement. Pretty much the same thing. :)

Good times. The uncontrolled commercialism has really hurt the open water dive value but still very good. It is or was a cheap puddle jump to Cozumel. Spectacular reef diving there.

The word renders really jumped out at me. Rendering is how road kill and deceased farm animals are processed to make dog food and many, many other household items we use every day. Its not a pretty sight, or fragrant.
Soap.
but yes, you render the bacon from the fat, too.

I think it's the fat from the bacon tho....hmmmm
back in the 80s it became an 'it' thing to have lard sandwiches.
I wish I could time travel....
