Bring me a gold coin when you go wreck diving! :)

If I find any gold, it's a down payment for the next trip. :D

Yup, of course i was on a moving walkway in what was basically a big glass tube at the ripley's aquarium. ., but i was surrounded... and there were some darn big sawfish too

Never seen a sawfish except in a tank. :(

Did you kill any?? :D

Hell no! Why would I kill such awesome critters?

EDIT: I did some research and found out shark liver oil is used in sunscreen... so you can go out and find more sharks (without sun burns):D

If he's a wreck diver, he's making the right choice. I enjoy wrecks, but my preferred sites are reefs and caves.

Wait a minute... I am on vacation in one of my favorite cities.... why am I posting here... talk to you later

Not this guy I have ive been to wrecks but I stay outside.

As you should, if you're not specifically trained for that environment. Deaths in wrecks or caves amoung people who are trained are rare. The vast majority involve people who are diving beyond their training.

I have 2 irrational fears. Tight spaces and low heights.

Caves do not have to be tight. In the Tulum area, there are a number of caves that are used for guided tours and do not require any special training.
They do NOT go into the cave, they stay in what we call the "cavern" area. Which means you're always within sight of daylight. The routes are very carefully laid out and marked. There are no restrictions (tight places) on these routes. Yes, there is rock overhead, but the routes are very open, and you're always seconds away from an opening to the air.
Gives people a chance to see what cave diving is all about, without actually diving in a cave.

Of course, you won't see these in the cavern area...
Bone Fish.webp

That's a cave fish. 5-6" long. They've been so far back in the caves for so long that they no longer have any color. Or eyes.

Cenote (18).webp

That is a mammoth tooth. The rest of the skull is under the silt. We cleared it off some, but the silt takes a long time to settle, so no good pictures.

That I could do. (maybe)

Those tours are available to anyone with basic OW certification. You should have reasonable buoyancy skills and it's nice if people know how to frog kick and helicopter turn, but not vital. The places these tours are taken have been pretty effectively scoured, so it's virtually impossible to raise much silt.

By contrast, the cave in which we found the mammoth has never been mapped (that's what we were doing...). In that environment it's incredibly easy to stir up silt and end up with zero visibility. Especially in no-current caves like Mexicos Cenotes. As a matter of fact, it was impossible NOT to screw visibility in that cave, because it is so pristine that your exhaled bubbles cause calcine flakes to fall from the ceiling. It looked like it was snowing...

Went through a bunch of my pictures today, pre-digital era.
Man, all the memories coming up....fun to see the kid when he wasn't 6 foot tall...and when we both did TKD....and all the people I have not seen in years.

Oh, great, kick me when I'm down.
Been feeling kind of low, for various reasons, Can't afford the little sports car, and I don't think 20 Yo (male) hair dressers would go for an old gal like me....you know, midlife crisis....

Ok, so I am feeling already low, then I get the email from a job application, thanks, but no thanks...
Excellent timing.....
:(
