When the BMW plant came to South Carolina, they donated a souped-up pursuit car to SCHP. It rotated a bit among officers for a while, and I heard from one that they loved to get it in a night shift, when they could open it up on a long stretch of empty road. But it's not a Taurus... Ford says so!!
We used to have a Camaro that was marked; I'll try to find a picture of it. It was a seized vehicle and DARE promotion...
you'd figure the legislators had enough brain to buy locally....When the BMW plant came to South Carolina, they donated a souped-up pursuit car to SCHP. Actually, they initially refused the donation. Then quite a few citizens raised a ruckus about the taxpayer savings a single car represents, so they took the car. I don't think any other BMW cars made it into the fleet, though I'm pretty sure they have some BMW motorcycles in there.you'd figure the legislators had enough brain to buy locally....
When my dad worked (in a government office) he always looked inot buying stuff from companies producing locally if at all possible. "their tax money funds my pay, the least I can do is support their business"
did not work all the time, but when it did....
I've always thought these were so adorable. They have tiny, precious police and utility vehicles in France too.

Colorado State Patrol used the Camaro for years, because the other patrol cars got outrun too often. Just an un-badged Z28 with a bigger alternator. People still have the misconception that police cars have special motors and such. Not true, of course.
Now they use the Chargers.
There are some legitimate differences between the "not a Taurus" Interceptor and the various Taurus models (not counting obvious trim stuff, or seats), mostly things like moving the shifter, a bigger alternator to handle the extra electrical draw, and some performance tweaks done in the engine programming. We revert that stuff when we sell them after retiring them. Personally, I'd only consider buying a used police car from my employer -- and only if I knew exactly which car it was I was buying... because I know how it was used. A patrol car? Lots of very hard mileage, and lots of hours on that motor that aren't reflected in the mileage...Colorado State Patrol used the Camaro for years, because the other patrol cars got outrun too often.
