Clashing limbs during sparring

Applied some of this a few days ago. Yeah so basically:
-Beginners love to do things that make limbs clash.
-Slow speed = more chances of clashing.
-Moving around the opponent = less chances of clashing.

But I am starting to see how point sparring can develop bad habits. I love the kata of Shotokan, just not the tournament-style sparring.

It shouldn't cause bad habits.

Train free sparring. Compete in point sparring.

If all your training is free sparring bad habits shouldn't develop and competing in point sparring is an easy adjustment.

A long, time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...oops, sorry.

We were at a point tournament in New England. Mitch Kobalanski (SP) won the lightweight division and Big Ed Harris won heavyweight. They were fighting for the Grand Championship.

During the match they both threw quarter turn, back leg, roundhouse kicks. Hard. Their legs collided.

Mitch's femur snapped in half with a sound that any of us there will never forget for as long as we live.

There's clashing limbs, and there's clashing limbs that go boom.
