I actually use a different analogy along the same lines. Target dictates Tool. The weapons being the arms, legs, or head, and the tools being the different way to shape the hand or foot to fit the target. Kinda like the interchangeable heads on a screwdriver, they all stem from the same handle but the tool can change from a #3 philips to a #1 flat to meet the situation you need. I'm not going to punch someone in the throat with a full fist, I'm going to alter the hand to fit the target with a half-fist or a finger poke.
