Aging, health issues and Martial Arts. - Martial Journal

TMA is unique among "sports" in that it does not wholly depend on raw power, speed, durability or flexibility and so can be not only enjoyed, but still offer benefits into old age. I've found that physical performance in some respects can even improve! Flow and biomechanical efficiency being a couple of examples. I think even the most physically/medically challenged among us can still do a decent kata (minus some kneels, high kicks and jump kicks, though these moves can be modified while still retaining some self-defense function).

And aside from the physical, there are multiple mental/spiritual benefits that don't have an expiration date. Tactical thinking, calmness under stress, awareness and discipline to name a few. TMA is one of those things that doesn't abruptly end at some point but something that stays with us as we go gently into the night.

Train MA can make you to feel young in old age. I have a drill that contain 6 punches and 6 kicks. Every time after I have repeated that drill 10 times, I feel I am 14 years old again. I don't get the same feeling when I do my running. There is something unique in MA that does not exist in any other sports. I believe it's the stretching your body into all directions.
