He did have students however they were not paying students. He was very wealthy but died young ,in his mid 30's I believe , about 2 years before Yip Man died. The story I was told was that Yip Man told him teaching would help him fully understand Wing Chun so he taught a handful of friends. Yes, his knife has 12 sections.. He was the first to learn the dummy and weapons. After he used a movement in the dummy that caused an injury in a fight Yip Man took the movement out of the dummy form. All of his students save one were wealthy business types and never took paying students however some showed things to others if they shared an interest in WC.
