This site called it a hard whip or Bian.

Bian, as far as I know, is more 'whip'-like instead of rod like.

They use a similar weapon in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in a brief fighting sequence, it snapped a sword. It was really thick, heavy and strong.

I just can't seem to find anywhere a proper title other than bian...

and everytime I look up bian its a whip as in soft.

That's correct... bian. I guess you could add tie on the front so to show it's solid iron & not jointed or flexible, but it's a whip as well.

Thanks, appreciate it. Is there anything like this that doesn't come in whip form and is just a solid rod? I've seen them like that, it doesn't have sections, but i don't know what its called and I can't find pictures of it without knowing its name...

Iron Rulers are a similar type of thing... Get a copy (can't find mine) of Yang Jwing Ming's book on CMA weaponry to be sure.

Remember though... with a lot of CMA weaponry, the name denotes function, not description.

I know this weapon as an iron rod. I think it is called bian because of its appearance. Properly it should be something like tie gun ("iron rod").

Dr Yang's book on CMA weaponry can be found at Amazon if you're interested.
