What do you consider spiritual?

Inspired by another thread, I'm curious about what people consider to be spiritual. In that endeavor, if people could provide a working definition of spiritual/spirituality, under than 20 words, I think that could help with understanding each others viewpoints, clarifying our own viewpoints, and possibly help each of us evolve our own viewpoints of spirituality.

I do have a request. Obviously this is a discussion forum, so feel free to debate or poke holes in each others definitions but please provide your own definition before doing so. No requirement to do so, just my own request. If you have something that you need to clarify outside the 20 words, my request is that you do it as an addendum to your definition.

The idea between a 20 word limit is to help people really think about and condense their beliefs, rather than try to catch everything or hide it in flowy words.

I'll start. My definition of spirituality is: "Understanding your own self, and creating a harmony between yourself and your surrounding environment."

As an addendum example: I initially thought about using nature instead of surrounding environments, but thought that fell flat. People who grew up in a city could feel more spiritual and more of a connection to the world in that environment, than in nature, and someone who has a harmony between themselves and nature, but lives purely in the city and never sees nature, would not be very zen.

Here is my definition for "martial art spirit".

Be brave and sacrifice yourself to help others (侠义 - 见义勇为,舍己助人).

Spirituality is the pursuit of balance, discipline, and self-awareness through the harmony of body, mind, and spirit.

Addendum: Rooted in my Roman Catholic upbringing, spirituality also reflects my affinity for balance and the concept of "thin places" (Caol Áit in Gaelic) where the physical and spiritual worlds touch. Through martial arts, I find a bridge between tradition, introspection, and the pursuit of deeper connection to self, past, present, future, and the universe.

What a great idea for a thread.

It’s either going to go for a hundred plus posts or get shut down by the Mods early.

I hope for the former rather than the latter.

Spirituality is, in the absence of evidence, the recognition of a feeling, sense or belief that there is something beyond one’s physical self, something more to existing as a ‘being’ than the corporeal.

It sort of prompts me to ask what is one’s spirit that can be nourished? Is it a synonym for something else?
Soul I guess. Or the total being. In the other thread people talked about fighting spirit etc. I just think of that as determination. Warrior spirit? You're not a warrior unless you get paid to inflict violence.

To add to the post about one's-self and self-awareness, I fully believe spirituality is believing there is something much bigger than ourselves and the balance we need to find between them.

Development of effective personality traits. So becomng more resilient or more compassionate or understanding why you think or feel a certain way.(meta cognition)

Is "self-awareness" just default? What is not "self-awareness"?

Sometime people use the word "self-cultivation" and "inner peace". Are those also default?

Also, "to be a good person", is that also a default?
Surely you have seen people who are absolutely clueless and self-centered. Zero self-awareness. They refuse to see the bad or issues within themselves and blame others for all their problems.

Yes, I believe a good measure of self-awareness is required to be a good person. Like most everything else, it starts with the individual first.

What do you see?

you might be aware this is an optical illusion
not having "self-awareness" unable to see the 3 images,

Being "self aware " one may be able to shift their inner awareness to see one or the other
or even all images .

The ability to do so, gives one a "choice"
based on being self aware.

You make thing too complicate. Just be a good person. It's just as simple as that.

I don't eat meat. I believe human being can live without killing. I believe all animal has as much right to live as human. I can't be a bad person if I believe in that. But I just don't talk about it.

Some Chinese stop eating meat once a month and believe that's high spiritual thing.

So, if we have a thread, "You should be a good person." I don't believe anybody will have any objection.

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Again, It's just common sense to me.
