Never said we should "trust the government". But laws and Acts are necessary components of security and justice. Wanting to scrutinize the PA is great, calling it "Orwellian" and dismissing it out of hand without really looking at it isnt.

I read it until my eyes glazed over when it was pushed through and had numerous hour long discussions (ok, arguments) about it with several connected individuals. Years later, my opinion that it was an ill advised, poorly considered, and rushed bit of legal BS hasn't changed.

It may look like my mind is set, but it isn't. I'm glad to see when people can really debunk things that I bring up. But I haven't seen much in years to change my opinion on it.

The original topic of this thread was Government spying on citizens.
The PA is a good part of what makes that "ok" to them.

really simple answer

If they monitored every call inside the US, that would be too much (not to mention impossible)

but all calls comming to the US from the ME? those NEED to be monitored, it's just common sense.

elder, i will grant you that all domestic calls could be scanned by voice recog software, for keywords, but the shear number of people it would take to do it manually, and the volume of calls there are domestically, makes me think it would/could never happen.

I'd feel better if they spent more time on tracking down real terrorists, than calling group titter sessions over phone sex. Then again, maybe it's code.
